About Faye Alderson:

I am a compassionate, dedicated and hardworking individual with a strong work ethic and a deep passion for knowledge. My interest lies in the field of ultrasound, specifically obstetric sonography. To gain practical experience in sonography, I have recently accepted a zero-hour contract position as a scan assistant at Numi Scan Gateshead. I am also set to graduate in July 2024 with a predicted 2:1 grade in BSc Health and Social Care. As I complete my studies, I am determined to pursue further education and leverage my degree to fulfill my passion for medical ultrasound.

I am skilled in communication, having honed this ability through my experience as a Teaching Assistant in various schools and just recently as a scan assistant at Numi Scan Gateshead. I have been working as a Teaching Assistant at The Education Network since November 2022. As a Teaching Assistant, I effectively communicated with students, teachers, and parents, ensuring clear understanding and support for students' learning needs. Although only very recently, within my role as a scan assistant, I have interacted with clients regularly throughout the day, providing them with clear explanations, filling out patient forms and addressing their concerns to ensure a comfortable and informed experience. These roles have strengthened my ability to convey information clearly and empathetically in diverse settings, learn the importance of confidentially, and provide overall excellent quality care to patients.

I have also developed patience through my experiences. In the classroom, I work with students of varying abilities and backgrounds, often needing to explain concepts multiple times and in different ways to ensure understanding. This required a great deal of patience and adaptability. Similarly, as a scan assistant, I have interacted with clients who may be anxious or have questions about the procedure. I take extra time in listening to clients concerns or any questions they may have in order for them to feel comfortable throughout their experience.

I am a compassionate individual, as demonstrated through my role as a Teaching Assistant. In this position, I support students by providing personalised attention and understanding their unique needs. I have helped children overcome challenges by offering patience, encouragement, and tailored assistance, ensuring each child felt valued and supported. My willingness to go the extra mile to make a positive impact on their academic and personal development highlights my compassionate nature and I believe this to be a necessary skill in the medical ultrasound industry.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Kind regards,

Faye Alderson

Experience

I am currently a teaching assistant at the education network and I have been working within this role since November 2022. As a Teaching Assistant, I support students by providing personalised attention and addressing their unique needs. Occasionally, I assist in classroom management, facilitated learning activities, and offer additional help to students who require it. Additionally, I work 1-1 with certain students, offering tailored support to help them overcome specific challenges and succeed academically. My role requires effective communication, patience, and a compassionate approach to ensure a positive and supportive learning environment.

As a newly appointed scan assistant at Numi Scan Gateshead, I am beginning to gain hands-on experience in the field of sonography. Although I have only worked here since May 2024 my responsibilities include preparing clients for their scans, ensuring they are comfortable, and assisting the sonographers’ whilst at the main desk. I help maintain a smooth workflow by handling administrative tasks, managing patient records, and ensuring that the equipment is adequately set up and maintained. As I continue in this role, I anticipate encountering a variety of clients, learning to address their questions and concerns with empathy and clear communication, and supporting the sonography team to deliver overall holistic high-quality care.

Education

Currently, I'm in my final year at Northumbria University, pursuing a BSc (Hons) degree in Health and Social Care. I am due to graduate in July 2024 with a predicted 2:1 grade.
