About Ioana Dumitrescu:
When I came to Great Britain, I took an interest in teaching and started working as a teaching assistant. While working in Primary School as a teaching assistant, I have begun tutoring two students for GCSE Maths. I have enjoyed the time spent teaching them. I was happy when they told me that they enjoyed maths and I made the lessons understandable and easy to follow. When my GCSE students told me they passed their exams I experienced an incredible feeling of achievement that filled me with pride and confidence in my teaching career. I want to experience this feeling again and help other students to reach the same or even better level of achievement as my previous students.
I have done different types of jobs since I finished university. I have worked for A&DPharma (pharmaceuticals company) in the IT Department where I have worked with different types of people with different types of problems and always under pressure. Here I’ve developed skills to deal with problems quickly and efficiently. These skills helped me when I got my first job in the UK as a customer service at Tesco. At Tesco, I have improved my language and communication skills which helped me as a teaching assistant. While working as a teaching assistant I’ve seen many types of students with different levels of understanding and I learned how to be flexible and just to every student's needs.
In the UK in 2019 I have taken the GSCE English with a grade of C and higher GSCE Maths with a grade of A*, in 2020 - 2021 I pass the PGSE in FE. I had a period of 3 months doing online teaching which I enjoyed a lot. I like to prepare the lessons, and interact with the students and I have a great understanding of technology which is very helpful. For a better delivery of the online lesson, I am using a drawing tablet and Microsoft OneNote which gives me the liberty and movement as the whiteboard in a classroom. I am part of a large art and drawing online community and I always help them with problems related to Maths, they send me what they do not understand and I am explaining them step by step how to do it. I did this on many occasions with positive results from my part in delivering the task and explications.
With all the skills I’ve learned in my 14 years of working in the IT Department as, a customer assistant, teaching assistant, online teacher, 1:1 tutor and learning support I have gained various skills that will help me as an online teacher and help future students to achieve their dreams. With good knowledge of technology, mathematics and building the lesson to the understanding and likely for the variety of the student needs and character, I believe that I can deliver interesting and enjoyable online lessons.
I am using teams as software to connect online, but I can adjust to any other software as long as it has a share screen as an option. For lesson presentations, I use PowerPoint and OneNote for the explication of tasks or things that need further explanation. I have a drawing tablet which gives me the freedom of writing like on a whiteboard in a classroom. I can set google classroom to share links with Kahoot quizzes, and forms for checking the knowledge of the students, sending and receiving tasks and being in constant contact with the students. The e-mails and how to connect to Google Classroom can be provided and set during the first lesson. I can send paper material through the post mail, the packet usually arrives in 2 days after the sending. My lesson target is to make the students enjoy while receiving knowledge, understand maths and reach their target in this subject. I have a wonderful personality that can adjust to students learning individual style in order to deliver an enjoyable and fun lesson, but at the same time improving students knowledge and helping them achieve their targets for further education. I had great achievements with my past students, as they all reached their targets while attending interesting and understandable lessons. Combining all my skills developed in different area and obtain working various of jobs until I became a teacher I am confident that my lessons are delivered at best quality for the benefit of the students.
