Stevenage, Stevenage District, Hertfordshire

About Jade Cooper:

My name is Jade, I want to become an adult nurse working for the NHS and am excited to start working as either a CSW or HCA in order to become a TNA apprentice and eventually a qualified nurse.

Experience

I am currently in full-time education, studying Mathematics. I have GCSE qualifications in Maths, English, Chemistry and Biology. I received a A* in all my subjects (other than English where I received a B).

At present I am a response volunteer at Lister hospital. My duties include but are not limited to:

*ensuring fidget blankets are suitable and safe to use. I then deliver them throughout the hospital so they can be used by patients suffering from dementia or to children. I think it offers some comfort to patients and helps to relieve stress.

*I deliver games including puzzles, word searches and colouring pages to patients.

*I help to fight loneliness within wards by talking to patients in need. I have to say, this is possibly my favourite role as I get to interact with patients and help to fight feelings of isolation, boredom and depression. Its important to me that patients receive respect and dignity in their care and I believe their overall experience in hospital should always be a positive one. I hope during my shift I am able to help relieve stress and offer some comfort to patients who may be experiencing difficult times. It’s the most challenging part of my role and I encounter a variety of patients with a variety of care needs which gives me the most experience for the job I would love to have.

* Occasionally, I support patients by showing them where their appointment is so they don’t get lost.

* I help staff by delivering messages throughout the hospital. I can also help trainee staff by role-playing as a patient to give them a bit of practice.

*I also help deliver prescriptions throughout the hospital.

*I help out at meal-times by giving patients their breakfast, lunch or dinner. And I collect their plates and wash up. This helps to improve the level of care patient receive from the csw and nurses as they have one less job that they have to do and can spend more time helping patients.

I have also applied to become a volunteer for St John Abulance and am awaiting their response. This will give me more opportunities to work within Lister hospital which I am excited for.

It Is my dream to become a nurse working for the NHS. So I am excited to start my journey as a CSW or HCA so that I can become a TNA apprentice and eventually a qualified nurse. I would also love to apply to be a medic or nurse in the RAF reserves once I am qualified.
