About Jemima Kennedy:

I am a Psychology graduate of City, University of London. Throughout my degree, I developed a strong interest in the real-world impact of psychological support, which inspired me to pursue roles in the NHS, crisis intervention, and community work.

My leadership as President of the Psychology Society and Student Representative demonstrates my initiative and commitment to wellbeing, inclusivity, and collaboration. Leading a committee, organising events for over 300 members, liaising with staff, and advocating for diverse student needs strengthened my project management, communication, and teamwork skills.

Professionally, I have gained NHS experience as a Healthcare Assistant at Nottingham University Hospitals. I supported patients at vulnerable moments, adapting communication to individual needs, safeguarding wellbeing, and ensuring dignity in care. Many patients were anxious or distressed, and I developed skills in empathy, de-escalation, and professionalism under pressure. This experience provided a solid understanding of NHS values and multidisciplinary working, which will enable me to integrate effectively into therapeutic services.

Recently, I completed an internship with Therapeutic Journeys, supporting The Worry’s Journey, a two-week intervention for 12–25 year-olds. I conducted psychometric assessments, monitored therapeutic progress, and contributed to risk management plans for individuals at higher risk. I also co-facilitated group sessions implementing EMDR and other therapeutic techniques, strengthening my ability to build rapport, create safe group environments, and engage participants in structured interventions.

As a SHOUT Crisis Volunteer, I provide immediate text-based support to individuals experiencing suicidal ideation, panic, and acute distress. This role has strengthened my active listening, trust-building, and risk assessment skills. I have completed over 25 hours of intensive safeguarding and mental health training and commit to a minimum of 2 hours of support each week. I liaise closely with supervisors and facilitate emergency interventions when required. These experiences have enhanced my ability to assess and manage risk in real time, maintain clear boundaries, and deliver compassionate, solution-focused support.

For two years, I worked for Tutors United, delivering free after-school tuition to disadvantaged and neurodiverse pupils. I specialised in differentiated learning and person-centred support while maintaining safeguarding responsibilities, GDPR-compliant record-keeping, and regular communication with families. I supported pupils with SEND and families for whom English was a second language, using culturally sensitive communication to ensure accessibility. I also trained and supported a teaching assistant, further developing my leadership skills.

Beyond formal roles, I am committed to community mental health advocacy. I raised over £1,000 for Therapeutic Journeys by running a half marathon and organised multiple fundraising events for MIND. I have also volunteered in food banks, assisting families to access essential services. These experiences reflect my dedication to addressing wider social determinants of mental health and promoting equal access to support.
