Services offered
I am a Clinical & Forensic Practitioner Psychologist and throughout my career I have specialised in work with people with complex presentations, forensic risks and families whose difficulties included issues of neglect, physical and sexual abuse (both offending and non-offending). In addition to this, I have experience of working with parents and carers who experience mental health problems, have learning disabilities linked to involvement in care proceedings or who continue to support adult children with on-going needs.
A dynamic and very experienced health professional with senior management experience in the statutory, charitable and independent sectors. My management experience has included working at band 8d and 9 in the NHS providing advice and input to executive and board levels. As part of this I have insight into the different priorities and challenges facing senior operational and clinical leaders and have always tried to ensure that my input is based on an evidence-base for developing new and innovative pathways for intervention and support to proactively develop services and create psychologically-informed pathways and evolve these based on changing evidence.
As part of my professional roles, I held lead responsibility for designing highly specialised intervention programmes in both hospital and community settings including adaptations to established therapeutic interventions (eg CBT/REBT) to broaden inclusion of people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people, specific forensic issues and work to reduce the environmental impact upon behaviours of distress and introduce positive systemic interventions.
I have worked in a variety of settings in statutory services, the independent and, most recently in the charitable third sector providing clinical support for Independent Supported Living. As such, I have worked in partnership with various different agencies that demanded flexibility to accommodate the various requirements of different agendas, Family Support Networks and Experts by Experience. In my recent role, I have undertaken a significant amount of work around inclusion and engagement with people we support and co-developing both systems and materials that are as accessible as possible to people with autism and/or people with learning disabilities.
In all my employment my fundamental motivation is to make a difference and my most recent experience has greatly enthused me to work towards improving responses for autistic young people in particular alongside their families from a trauma-informed perspective. From 2001 to 2006, I was employed part time as Research Liaison Tutor on the Coventry & Warwick University Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology. This included lecturing and research supervision which I always found extremely satisfying. I have experience of working as an external examiner in Clinical Psychology at Exeter and Leicester Universities and Forensic Psychology at the University of Birmingham and Winchester. I also taught part-time on psychological therapies, particularly Cognitive-Behavioural approaches, at the University of Warwick between 2002 and 2013.
Experience
Over 28 years experience of working as a Clinical & Forensic Psychologist at all levels of security and community. Research and teaching at post-graduate level, senior clinical management, reporting to board and executive directors. Previously band 8d/9.
