About Jessica Norman:

I am an extremely capable, dynamic, and self-motivated individual. I am effective and efficient, with a proactive approach to work. I am meticulous, with a strong eye for detail. My key skills include organisation, time management and planning. I thrive when given a challenge and I enjoy taking ownership and responsibility of my workload.

I have recently been studying a Masters in Wildlife Biology and Conservation to hone my skillset for working in the ecological and environment sector, this is something I feel passionate and excited about. My MSc is CIEEM accredited, and I am currently a student member.

I have undertaken courses in Dormouse ecology and surveying, Phase 1 Habitat Surveying and QGIS for biodiversity net gain, alongside volunteering for Surrey Dormouse Group where I am working towards my protected species license. Through this I have signed off for surveying, handling, experience with pinks, grey eyes open and lactating mothers, I have learnt how to weigh dormice and complete box checks.

I have experience working in the arboricultural field and believe I have lots of transferable skills, such as working to policy and legislation, surveying and writing BS 5837:2012 Tree Survey, Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA), Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS) & Tree Protection Plan (TPP). I am not afraid to get my hands dirty and enjoy the physical aspects of the job, I love working outside and aim to do this more.

Experience

In my most recent role of Compliance and Data Officer I successfully achieved the following:

  • Project manage the AICO environmental sensor and PIV installation across our social housing to create healthier and safer living spaces for our residents.
  • Manage the compliance of our public buildings and communal areas to ensure we are up to date on servicing and remedial work for our fire alarms and emergency lighting, legionella, and electrical and gas works.
  • Finding new ways to make systems more efficient and comprehensive, as well as writing up process notes, creating new documents and implementing them.
  • Liaising with Contractors to find effective ways to monitor compliance and processes, creating new KPI’s that lead to more efficient processes for both GBC and the contractor.
  • Raising work orders for the Technical Services Team on Housing system Orchard, including major void works, kitchen and bathroom upgrades, gas, and electrical works etc.
  • Processing enquiries with residents and stake holders by actively liaising with other departments and managers.
  • Uploading large quantities of planned and project work documentation / certificates into Asset Management system Keystone e.g., EICR, fire installations, asbestos.
  • Manipulating naming conventions and strings in excel to rewrite file pathways, working intrinsically with Excel to achieve this, working alongside contractors to develop best practice ways of working.

In my previous role I also achieved the following:

  • Writing Tree Surveys, Arboricultural Impact Assessments, Arboricultural Method Statements, and Tree Protection Plans.
  • Keeping up to date with policies and compliances, while working to British Standards.
  • Through this role I learnt tree identification skills, along with recognising pests and diseases, as well as general risks to tree and public health.
  • Working with closely with clients to understand their planning designs, quoting and advice giving.
