Education / Training
About Kaleigh Stewart:
Throughout my studying at Trinity school completing my apprenticeship, STL level 3.
I increased my practical knowledge working with profound learning difficulties, global delay, also physical health disabilities. I increased my hours with after school clubs and extra curriculum activities. I also worked closely with parents and carers whilst working as a respite support worker.
I continued with a teaching assistant position at beacon hill academy to further my experience and knowledge working with SEND. I thoroughly enjoyed this position and had the chance to gain new experience working with PMLD students which I previously had less experience of working with. I choose to leave Beacon hill to further extend my family, also giving me the chance to study my level 3 in management and leadership and continuing my more flexible role in Beauty and Massage treatments.
My return to education was my employment with Hatton school and special Need centre. I was employed here for four years. During my time at Hatton school, I was able to achieve many different qualifications and gain new knowledge and experiences, accepting various roles.
Within my first year, I gained a position as cover and release. This had the responsibilities of covering the class teacher during their allocated planning time. When covering the teacher, I had to implement my own lesson planning and assume all aspects associated with the role of teacher in their class at that time.
From this position, I then progressed into the class instructor. The responsibilities of this position are the same of a teacher, leading the class students and conducting the class team to follow and initiate the lesson planning and direction I had developed.
This position also involves responsibility of liaising with parents and any third parties that may be involved with the children or families. Working alongside a team, understanding, and listening to everybody working with my students enabled me to reflect, adapt, and identify any changes or needs necessary for the children’s development and progress, as well as the staff's needs within my class during the school day. Maintaining safety, safeguarding, learning needs, respect and understanding of the individual students to provide the best possible outcome for themselves, to reach personal, and educational goals and objectives.
I also attended University- BA Honors special educational needs and disability studies September 2022-July 2023. I took a placement at this university to enable myself to access a qualified teaching position rather than unqualified (Teacher vs Instructor). QTS is available for me to apply with the experience I hold, but like many things it costs in the region of around £6000 which naturally most schools do not have.
During my time at university, my family grew once again. I decided to withdraw from the course after my first year, as you can imagine juggling pregnancy a young child of four years and still working was becoming increasingly difficult to manage.
I thoroughly enjoy working as part of a team and independently. I can maintain an identify support and focus in areas of need, with the ability to work through the curriculum whilst differentiating work and activities to accommodate the individual needs of all children, allowing them to progress and achieve their highest potential.
