About Kaylie Crompton:

I am currently working as the Head of a Specialist School in Bolton for children aged 3-19 with special educational needs and disability where I have been employed since 2013. My teaching career started in mainstream secondary where I trained as a Design Technology teacher before moving into SEN focussed roles. I have vast experience in leading a team of 80+ teachers and teaching assistants to ensure the safety and welfare of children and adults whilst embedding an ambitious curriculum that supports pupils progress against their individual long term aspirations to ensure they are prepared for adulthood in a varied and changing world. My priority is to ensure children and adults with SEND are treated with unconditional positive regard and have the same opportunities as any other person.

Experience

I have been working in education for over 14 years, 12 years with children and adults with Special Educational Needs and disability; initially starting in mainstream secondary schools teaching Product Design and Engineering. In my current role I manage a team of three senior leaders, 10 teachers and over 60 Learning Support Assistants, liaising closely with Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy teams to ensure a holistic learning environment. I initially started as an SEN Teacher, progressing to Deputy Head and then Head in 2013. Completing the National Professional Qualification for Headship with the Star Institute and taking on board advice and guidance from other professionals and educators, I have developed professionally as a leader, establishing myself within the role; implementing the strategic vision, setting high expectations and challenging underperformance to promote the ethos of Birtenshaw.

I am the designated safeguarding lead for the school, Lead Induction Tutor for 5 ECTs, Examinations officer and medication lead.

I deliver training internally to education and care staff as well as externally to parents and professionals on managing challenging behaviour and Autism, recording and reporting, Teaching and Learning, Assessment and child protection.

I am efficient in all Microsoft Office programs and hold administrator responsibilities for the SOLAR Assessment Program, CPOMs and DfE School Information site as well as the Single Central Record and Data Handling System. I have implemented new user-friendly systems for recording pupils progress to ensure that every unique child can demonstrate their development of knowledge and skills in a way that considers the workload of staff and can be appropriately accessed by parents, carers and other professionals.

Education

I hold a NPQH, Mini MBA in Business Leadership, PCGE in Secondary Design Technology, BSc (honours) Product Design.
