Research Assistant in Environmental Microbiology (Bangor University)

  • Lead of Sequencing operations.
  • Processing environmental RNA extracts to generate sequencing libraries of SARS-CoV-2.
  • Loading and managing the NextSeq sequencing platform (Illumina NextSeq).
  • Coordinating and overseeing the operations of the sequencing laboratory and its associated logistics.

  • Day to day operation of the production equipment (Laminar Flow Isolator and Don Whitley Anaerobic Workstation) in adherence with cGMP procedures.
  • Worked alongside the quality department in pertinent investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Contributed in the authoring and update of quality documentation.
  • Carried out daily inspections of facility and equipment to ensure all operating specifications are being adhered to.

Senior Laboratory Technician (Department of Health and Social Care, Aberdeen)

  • Worked towards meeting ISO standards.
  • High standard of pipetting and use of specialised lab equipment (Kingfisher, extraction hoods) and NGS Oxford Nanopore Technologies platform (GridION, LamPORE).
  • Handled time sensitive clinical samples.
  • Troubleshooting issues with results, equipment and software.
  • Managed schedules for the team to ensure samples are processed in a timely manner; managing and sorting stock.
  • Reviewed and consulted on SOP production.
