Social

About Lily Thompson:

I have recently completed a social work masters degree. I have acquired skills to work with children and families to improve their outcomes. I have insight into theories and legislation that underpin my work.

Having lived & worked in London Boroughs where families experience a high level of benefit dependency & where child poverty is three times higher than the national average, has given me first-hand experience of the challenges some families face. Understanding these children's' life experiences has ignited my ambition to continue my work with young people and families.

In previous roles my practice was underpinned by legislation such as The Children's Act, Keeping Children Safe in Education & Working Together to Safeguard Children. I also support the implementation of UNICEF's Rights Respecting School, championing children's rights. In January 2024, I completed PAN London threshold training, this developed my understanding of significant harm indicators.

I enjoy building relationships with children, listening to their wishes and feelings is something I believe I thrive at. Creating & tailoring resources means a child or young person's views can be successfully obtained and shared appropriately. I have a toolkit of inclusive resources and regularly take time explore and update them depending on the young person I am supporting.

Completing in-depth assessments to understand risk and area of support for children is something I have done when on placement as a student social worker and as a early help and safeguarding officer, I have experienced in completing Child and Family Assessment and Early Help  Assessments.

Keeping in-depth records is vital when working as a safeguarding practitioner, I am an organised individual who is able to keep detailed case notes and log them in a timely manner. I communicate well verbally and in written form. I can work with colleagues at all levels of seniority.

My understanding, non-judgmental and caring attitude alongside my professional, assertive and self motivated character, I believe contributes to me being able to provide outstanding safeguarding practice. I am willing and able to work flexibly to meet the needs of children and families.
