About Matthew Smith:
I’m a reliable and detail-oriented IT Tester with a background spanning psychology, customer service, healthcare logistics, and software quality assurance. I bring strong time management, adaptability, and a user-focused mindset to every project.
During the earning of my BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Northumbria University, I developed skills in research design, data analysis, and behavioural insight, which are all powerful skills that now support my structured approach to testing and user experience analysis. My final year project, a gamified personality test, demonstrated my ability to apply analytical thinking to real-world challenges.
Experience
Professionally, I supported the NHS vaccination rollout with Venatu before being promoted to Site Coordinator with Pharmacy2U, where I managed logistics and team operations. This experience strengthened my communication, problem-solving, and organisational abilities, which are essential for managing test cycles and stakeholder interactions.
I currently work at AND-E, a leading insurance company, where I started in Customer Service before transitioning into a QA Tester role. I now test a variety of Guidewire platforms while working in a fast-paced Agile environment, I collaborate closely with developers, business analysts, and product managers. I actively participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and 3 Amigos sessions, which has given me a strong understanding of the full software development life cycle (SDLC). In my role I also:
- Write and execute test cases in TestRail
- Use Postman for API testing and am learning automation testing
- Conduct cross-browser testing using BrowserStack
- Log and track bugs in Jira
- Work in Agile teams, contributing to daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
- Maintain documentation in Confluence
My combined experience in customer-facing roles and technical QA gives me strong insight into user needs and software quality. I’m passionate about continuous learning and improving digital products, and I’m now looking to contribute to a forward-thinking QA team where I can continue developing my skills and adding value.
