Mia Cairns

Hello,  

I would like to introduce myself my names Mia Cairns, I am 16 years old, and currently a student in 5th year at Musselburgh Grammar School, I am currently doing work experience at Finlayson Autos Ltd In Musselburgh, since June 2022where I have gained experience about all vehicles and the various parts and how they all work.  It has allowed me to interact with clients daily and allow me to learn new life skills which will help me throughout my working career.

I enjoy physical activities such as running, biking, and working out, swimming going on walks with family and friends.  I also like to research things about cars so I can learn more about them. 

SKILLS GAINED

• Experience working in a mechanic's workshop. 
• Learning all the relevant health and safety regulations.
• Gained experience fitting minor components to the vehicles of customers, such as brakes, gearboxes, alternators, tyres, exhausts, batteries, oil changing, servicing such as air and oil filters, spark plugs, drive belts, suspension arms, drop links, diagnostics, bleeding breaks, bleeding clutches”.
• Shown how to fault find with both diesel and petrol engines.
• Assisted with stripping down components and being able to reassemble them.
• Tyre machine, wheel balancer, sockets, drill’s and impact gun, torque wrench, spring compressor, ratchets, spanners, hammers, fire stick, calipers, ramps, jacks, steering alignment gauges, oil dalek.
• Assisted in changing suspension systems and provided new shock absorbers on a variety models.
• Dealing with customer enquiries when they called for an update on there vehicles, which were passed to the workshop manager.
• Always Keeping the workshop clean and tidy.
• Diagnostics machine to find any fault codes.
