Within an acute case load, I conducted thorough dysphagia assessments, refining my expertise in evaluating swallowing disorders. May 2022 – June 2022 Royal Liverpool University Hospital & Aintree Hospital –Placement
I conducted a multitude of dysphagia and community assessments for adults, expanding my expertise in these areas. Operating within the hospital, I skilfully prepared barium swallow assessments and FEEs assessments. Additionally, I initiated and executed an audit, evaluating the implementation of SLT recommendations across wards for effectiveness. My audit findings informed valuable recommendations to enhance the process. This experience allowed me to actively contribute to the improvement of clinical practices while honing my assessment and analytical skills.
Jan 2021- Mar 2022 Elsmbank College Hub & Milwood Primary School –Placement
I managed caseloads in special schools and college, gaining practical experience with a diverse group of individuals facing communication challenges. I o had the opportunity to explore various AAC devices, including eye gaze technology and observed assessments conducted by the ACE Centre. This exposure expanded my knowledge of mounting equipment and providing AAC solutions, encompassing both low-tech and high-tech options. Additionally, I attended PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) training and successfully created PECS boards to enhance communication for individuals benefiting from visual aids. Collaboration was integral to my role, involving close work with schoolteachers, families and caregivers to implement effective communication strategies at home, further supporting the individuals' communication development.
Oct 2021- Dec 2021 Oakwood Academy –Placement
I have analysed Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) for high school students in a specialist school with moderate to severe learning difficulties and contributed in updating them. I employed a diverse array of assessment tools, including the TALC, RAPT and CELF-5 enabling a thorough understanding of students' communication skills and cognitive capacities. To ensure a holistic understanding of each student's unique needs, I demonstrated creativity and initiative by developing personalized informal assessment methods, creating my own equipment. One of my key strengths lies in setting both long-term and short-term targets for individual students, aligning their educational plans with their unique developmental needs.
