About Professor Mahmoud Shafik:

I am a first-class background in Digital Innovation in Engineering, with BEng in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, MSc in Autonomous Control Systems, and PhD in Intelligent Mechatronics Systems and Digital Technology. I am an international authority in industrial applied research and development who has made a worldwide leadership recognition in the field of Intelligent Systems and Digital Technology, with over 25 years of experience in industrial engagement, research, innovation and enterprise.

I am a member of both the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK and American Association of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), USA. I am a lead and an active member of the Consortium of UK Universities Manufacturing and Engineering (COMEH) for the Engineering Professors Council and serving as an Assessor/Reviewers for EC Horizon Research-Framework Programmes, Innovate-UK, UK Research Councils (UKRC) and Knowledge Transfer Expert for UK Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP).

As a formal principal investigator and senior programme manager of PERA Innovation Ltd, worked with SME’s and LE’s executives and directors to help business organisations across UK and Europe to tackling businesses challenges. This helped me to acquire the executive team leadership, internal planning, budget and resources management and organisational skills necessary to manage programmes of several partners. I also develop my significant key strength in external income generation, leadership, and management of leading national and international programmes from EC, Innovate-UK, UKRC and single clients.

As a team player I have been coordinating, negotiating, chairing, managing, and delivering several projects from EC Framework, Innovate-UK, and UKRC Programmes. These projects are focused on Net Zero Technology, Industry 4.0 and beyond, Digital Innovation in Engineering, AI and Automation, Robotics, Transportation and Immobile applications, Battery and Battery Management Systems Technologies, Resilient and Sustainable Manufacturing, Smart Factories, Steer and Drive by Wire, Sensors and Actuators, CVD Diamond for Healthcare Applications, Internet of Everything (IoE), 5G, ALT, ICT for Visually Impaired, Digital Healthcare, Telecare, CO2 and Climate Change, System Integrations, and Digital Software Tools.

I am a leader with a great management and industrial applied research vision, outstanding leadership and management experience, and world class technical skills. Teamwork, inspiration, innovation, and creativity are my keys talents. I am an excellent communicator with creative thinking, flexible, enjoys solving all kind of management and scientific challenges as they arise and could provide executive leadership, with excellent relationships and e-commerce skills.

I learned from my professional career that meeting the key responsibilities and impact society achieved when you make the team and the society part of your organisation, understand your core business opportunities, being professional and able to realise the vision and transform organisations strategic plans into real achievements. These are indeed my personal qualities that I practised successfully for many years and will bring to this role. This is unquestionably a very challenging role requires motivation, ambition and determination and I believe that my experience in digital innovation in engineering, industrial applied research, enterprise, international development, leadership, and ability to work under pressure records are strong evidence of me being capable of succeeding in this position.
