About Rafael Delicoli Franco:
An enthusiastic and determined individual who has searched for a meaningful and challenging career. Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics are personal passions, further assisting in better understanding mechanical and physical concepts from the natural world. Previously worked on engineering projects which further developed skills to commence a deadline-driven task, including role selection, timeframe planning and communication with group peers. Follows a personal mantra, "commitment, hard work and character are synonymous to success".
Experience
Last summer, I interned at Seccional Brasil S/A. During my time there, I helped design laboratory components. I conducted a wind turbine structural analysis through a fatigue calculation of a 20-meter tall 3-bladed structure. I also developed a Python code to store and condense data analysis inputs from 20 different Brazilian states (e.g. water stress, canopy cover depletion, etc). I also conducted a deep analysis of “AquaCrop” operational systems with the objective of parameterising the crop's canopy 1-year growth rate.
Throughout my time at University, I have been an active member in several societies such as the Manchester Stinger Motorsport Society where as a member of the Chassis Subteam, I was responsible for developing mechanisms such as headrest adjustments, firewall protection sheet and steering wheel column shaft.
Most recently, I have dedicated my time and efforts towards the Hyperloop Society in which I started out as Chassis Subteam leader. My main role was to incorporate all mechanical subteam components such as suspension and magnetic levitation into the chassis mainframe. Now, as a third/final year student, I have been promoted to Chief Engineer where I overlook every sub-team's system to see if rules are being followed by team members and if mechanisms function properly.
Education
After completing my International Baccalaureate at the International School of Curitiba in Brazil, with subjects such as HL Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, HL Physics, HL Chemistry and HL Portuguese Literature, I applied to the University of Manchester to study Mechanical Engineering. Some units of my university degree that I've taken so far are Fluid Mechanics, Mechanical Systems, Mechanics, Dynamics, Material Science, Manufacturing, and Control Engineering.
