Roy Jones
Transportation / Logistics
About Roy Jones:
Upon leaving school, I initially embarked on a bricklaying career, working neatly and
efficiently to lay bricks in accordance with the training and skills I learnt in college. I was
involved in the development of various new builds from houses to bungalows, both as an
apprentice with Builth Building Services and later with C.B. Powell & Sons.
The opportunity later arose to divert my skills and knowledge into a new career path, and
thus I switched stationary buildings for moving vehicles, as I began work in the motor world.
My eye for detail and perfectionist skills transferred effortlessly into valeting both new and
used vehicles to an exceptional standard. I completed on-the-job training in a variety of
specialist cosmetic vehicle maintenance techniques including dent repair, and took great
pride in my work. In a bid to progress my career further, I later moved to both valeting and
driving recovery trucks in both rural and built up areas across Leominster, Herefordshire &
Worcester for The Vella Group Accident & Repair Centre. I thoroughly enjoyed this role, and
made it my five-year goal to obtain my full HGV driving licence.
The rise in fuel costs and daily 70-mile round commute - as well as a personal change of
situation - eventually became a challenging combination, and so I made the difficult decision
to leave The Vella Group to find work closer to home. In the autumn of 2022, I began
working as a machine operative at The Burger Manufacturing Company here in Builth,
where once again my skills in cleanliness and perfection have proved second to none.
True to my word, I stuck to my five year-goal of achieving my full HGV driving licence 6
months ahead of plan when passing my test in June this year, and have continued to
maintain CPC Training. I’m now ready to embrace a new challenge outside of the factory
walls and am looking forward to putting all of my previous skills, knowledge & expertise to
good use.
Outside of work, I enjoy comedy, listening to music and learning about historical events, as
well as dog walking, exploring new places and spending time with family and friends. I enjoy
watching a large variety of sports including football, rugby & basketball. I really enjoy
playing pool and golf, as well as occasionally umpiring Builth Bulls basketball games at the
local leisure centre.
