About Scott Thomas:
Creative Community Practitioner | Event Coordinator | Arts & Wellbeing Advocate
I'm a Glasgow-based community arts practitioner with a passion for bringing people together through creativity, culture, and collaboration. With experience across the third sector, education, and events, I’ve led and supported a wide range of programmes – from wellbeing workshops and theatre productions to food education projects and festivals.
As Director of Stravaig Creative Arts and a board member of SP SQUARE CIC, I’ve worked with partners across Scotland to deliver inclusive, community-led initiatives. I’m organised, adaptable, and committed to making positive social impact through creative approaches to engagement.
Currently seeking roles in community development, events, arts, or wellbeing – especially those that value teamwork, creativity, and meaningful engagement.
Experience
Cafe Team Member – Tesco Café (Jan 2025 – Present)
Currently working as part of a busy front-of-house team, serving customers, preparing food, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and service. I’ve been recognised for my leadership qualities and am being trained as a Team Leader after just two months in the role.
Studio Manager – The Wee Retreat CIC (Feb 2021 – Jan 2025)
I managed operations at this wellbeing-focused venue in Glasgow, handling bookings, scheduling, and communication with facilitators and the public. I oversaw building security, supported volunteers, managed budgets, promoted events, and ensured a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere for all users of the space.
Director – Stravaig Creative Arts / Stravaig Theatre (Jun 2021 – Present, Freelance)
I founded and continue to lead Stravaig, a community-focused arts organisation delivering workshops, performances, and creative projects. I direct productions, manage funding applications, lead workshops, and coordinate collaborators. Highlights include sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Horror Festival and creative heritage projects with the Woodland Trust.
Festival Coordinator & Volunteer Liaison – Southside Wellbeing Festival (2022 – 2024)
I helped grow this annual community festival from a grassroots initiative to an event with over 600 attendees. I coordinated volunteer teams, managed digital content and marketing, and worked with local partners to programme and promote a diverse range of wellbeing-focused events.
Creativity Champion – 64 Million Artists (Dec 2023 – Feb 2024)
I facilitated creative workshops in schools and community spaces, helping participants express themselves through art, drama, and craft. I tailored each session to the needs of the group and supported inclusive, empowering creative experiences.
Event & Security Staff – UK Music Festivals (2016–2019, 2021–2024)
Worked across major music festivals including TRNSMT, Rewind, and Download in both security and bar roles. These fast-paced environments developed my communication, crowd management, and problem-solving skills under pressure.
Creative Writing and Drama Facilitator – Freelance (Ongoing)
I regularly lead creative writing, theatre, and wellbeing workshops for young people and adults. I design sessions that promote self-expression, build confidence, and encourage participants to share their stories and experiences.
Freelance Archivist / Creative Project Worker – Various (2020 – Present)
Worked on film and theatre-based community heritage projects, including a 10-film history project in Berwick-upon-Tweed and a WWII creative learning programme across Fife. Tasks included directing, scripting, managing participants, and overseeing archive research.
Front of House & Performer – Various Theatres & Events (Ongoing)
I've worked front-of-house roles for Stravaig Theatre and performed in Halloween and Christmas shows for children. I also coordinated customer experience during live events and supported production set-up and strike.
Education
I graduated with a First Class Honours BA in Drama and Performance from Queen Margaret University in 2020. The course gave me a solid foundation in directing, writing, and performance, with hands-on experience in technical production and creative collaboration. In my final year, I partnered with Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre to create a podcast exploring their archives, blending research with storytelling.
