WISH- Mental health Support Worker: October 2018- July 2019 (VOLUNTARY PLACEMENT YEAR AT UNIVERSITY)

  • Provided 1:1 emotional and mental health support with clients face to face, with phone calls and in a group setting
  • Worked in a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, GP’s, Social workers and legal aid advisers sharing ideas to provide a holistic approach to meeting all the client everyday needs  
  • Organised recreational group activities/trips to go on with clients to encourage physical and mental wellbeing and independent living 
  • Creating personalised support plans to meet the physical and emotional needs of the service users 
  • Working within safeguarding principles to promote client wellbeing and to protect clients from harm

  • Advocating for specific housing needs to landlords for women released from prison or psychiatric institutions, increasing verbal communication skills
  • Weekly visits to clients to encourage social inclusion within the community from clients to build client confidence, resilience and self-esteem.
  • Using IT skills to Monitor, file and maintain up-to-date relevant client information for client records. 
  • Assisted clients in resolving financial debts by writing formal letters, increasing written communication skills

  • Calculating, collecting & recording payment from customers making sure they pay for all items, building on numeracy skills
  • Monitoring of non-payment of items and taking action in line with the agreed policy and procedures, enhancing organisational skills
  • Providing solutions of other payment methods, building problem-solving skills
  • Working within a team, supporting new colleagues by training them how to scan items and attending team meetings collaborating with others to enhance customer service skills
  • Problem solving and rectifying customer disputes and complaints providing relevant information tailored to each customer.
