About Stephanie Magee:

Through my psychotherapy and counselling work, I have provided mental health and wellbeing services, through over 1000 therapy sessions, with a variety of different adults and children & young people, over 100 clients to date, with multiple and various issues, concerns and needs since November 2019.

In my current role, I have developed an empathetic, ethical and boundaried counselling service and established professional working relationships with students and staff. I have a flexible attitude with excellent interpersonal and time management skills regarding sustaining my consistent session timetable within the school day. Through my work, my aim is to help children and young people have a fair chance to be who they want to be by providing a safe and trusting environment, increasing self-awareness, encouraging self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.

As the mental health champion, in a previous retail position, I used my learned skills and knowledge to design, develop and deliver a training module for staff and management regarding mental health awareness, mindfulness, and sensitivity training. In having such a diverse range of customers and staff, it was beneficial for staff to have a basic understanding about different mental health issues, behavioural disorders and learning difficulties. It not only gave staff and management the basic tools they may need when supporting customers or staff, but the module also focused on awareness of diversity issues concerning race, gender, sexuality, religious and political views, and other various issues that communities and individuals may face. I also implemented refresher sessions occasionally as these topics are ever evolving and changing. I ensured I updated the material frequently when I had completed a training course with any new, relevant, and further information.

I was also the charity champion who organised events in store for local organisations and charities to raise money. I researched over 100 places throughout Belfast and Northern Ireland in various fields of; mental health, homeless, LGBTQ+, special needs, women’s centres, counselling services, learning and physical disabilities, animal rescue shelters, environmental and conservation groups and many more.

I am a past participant and current volunteer alumni of Friends Forever International (FFI) which is an organisation that empowers leaders from all communities and diverse backgrounds to connect, strengthen, and serve communities around the globe by combining their passion to tackle local and global issues with the skills, experiences, and resources required to do so. As an alumni leader, our work centres on leading workshops concerning identity, compassionate communication, shared experiences, team building, leadership development, cultural appreciation, healthy living, creativity and the arts and more. As an alumni leader for various groups of young people, I regularly participate in the design and development of the FFI curriculum, and also frequently take part in volunteering and helping local community and charity organisations through FFI as they believe in service learning; building empathy through action. FFI’s RECIPE values guide programmes and philosophy for curriculum development, which stands for identifying Resilience, practising Empathy, strengthening Communication, achieving Impact, encouraging Playfulness, and giving Effort.
