• Inspired, led and managed multi-functional teams of 14 personnel deployed worldwide, conducting complex maintenance on £Mil+ assets. Returning Op ready resource 50% ahead of the planned schedule on 10 occasions by improving cohesion and integration. Revolutionising deployed operations to ensure the right spares and support equipment  are in situ ahead of the input to relieve logistic pressure and bring sustainability to high intensity engineering efforts.

• Gas Turbine expert and trainer. Mentored and trained to safely conduct Jet engine operations, executing in excess of 500+ engine performance runs training 30+ pers over 7 years. Improving team skill set, and providing added robustness and effectiveness to engineering shifts. Developing the confidence and ability of personnel, enhancing trust and communication skills to envelop an engaged working environment.

• Harnessed an expert engineering acumen to direct and disseminate information to all stakeholders, utilising a suite of communication methods. Part authored and published an LII targeted engineering magazine that has now been published 9 times and distributed to a wider workforce of 1000+ personnel, containing a collection of engineering best practice, tips and highlighting areas of concern and focus.

• Interpreted engineering policy to identify improvement, utilising knowledge to devise new methods for forward thinking inspiredbest practice. Project managed transformation reducing time documenting the specification of safety critical inspections, providing templates that can be utilised by the end user. Enabling an increase of 30% supervisor hour across engineering shifts, reducing mistake reporting by 20%.

• Awarded the Afghanistan Commanders Commendation, for outstanding leadership, mentoring and coaching during deployment to an extremely challenging, kinetic theatre.Implemented maintenance plans critical in sustaining the struggling Tornado operationally capable in environments on the limit of its safety envelope. Working 12hr shifts, 7 days a week, for 5 months to maintain 9 deployed aircraft on constant close airsupport duties.

Continuous Airworthiness Engineering Manager Ministry of Defence                      May 19 to Present

Entrusted within the decision and risk chain to manage the continuing airworthiness of the Lightning II F-35B fleet. Enablingthe satisfaction of key engineering milestones that maintain and document configuration control to ensure the platform capability to meet strategic objectives. Creating overarching policy that captures and mitigates risk, which is able to satisfy the safety case requirements of risk duty holders.

 

• Devised and project managed a revolutionary new way of managing applicable engineering instructions across the UKs £3bn Force of 30 LII F-35Bs. Reducing engineering documentation deferral work by 90%, which has had a real world impact saving in excess of 1300 working hours since Jun 20 across the enterprise.

• Identified problem issues and engineering trends across the LII Enterprise, empowering and supporting stakeholders to identify root causes to drive projects from cradle to grave to an agreed satisfactory completion standard. Removing 30,000+ days of issues awaiting technical query response since 2019.

• Continuously improving policy and practice . Streamlining activities to drive realistic positive change across the force to provide greater robustness in capability. Effectively reducing the personnel required to carry out engineering task by 66%, ensuring allocated workforce maximisation.

 

Engineering Manager – Mechanical / PropulsionMinistry of Defence                      Nov 15 to Apr 19

Immediate line manager and shift supervisor, responsible coordinating and leading oversea deployments. Managing the compliance of all work conducted adheres to certified maintenance procedures and carried out by authorised engineers, ensuring correct certification and compliance with all H&S, CoSHH and risk legislations. Providing direction, control and supervision and maintaining tempo and morale for up to 80 personnel including producing annual appraisals.

 

• Chaired regular management meetings responsible for key decisions including future planning, budget’s requirements of engineering work, contingency planning and impact realisation. Driving sustainment to minimise downtime of assets undergoing scheduled maintenance cycles by 30% within the UK, providing aircrew additional training benefit in increased available flying hours.

• Identified current and potential process failures, providing robust proven solutions while actively managing and mitigating workplace risk. Streamlining procedures to maximise team performance ensuring operational effectiveness and increasing airworthiness by introducing a bespoke continuous improvement schemes triaging 100+ identified issues.

• Providing advice and problem solve as subject matter expert for the air system, harnessing 15 years’ experience to interpret and execute complex technical solutions involving external agencies, stakeholders and design agencies carrying out technical report writing when necessary.

 

Flight line Controller – Mechanical / Propulsion​​Ministry of Defence                      Jun 11 to Nov 15

Management responsibilities within a dynamic, world class engineering team, encompassing all mechanical and propulsion aircraft systems. Flight line controller, responsible for all flight line engineering activities and completion of the flying programme utilising and maximising all resources to achieve the tasked requirement.

 

• Developed the most junior members of the Royal Air Force, Mentoring 10 personnel as they achieve independence, coaching and championing young people in the workplace to ensure they thrive, grow and progress along the key educational and practical milestone set out as part of their continued professional development.

• Responsible for all flight line operations, mobilising 12 fully armed aircraft and all support equipment, maintaining situational awareness and reacting to an ever changing situation to guarantee mission success. Controlling all servicing and documentation requirements to meet mission objectives. Conducted role in both UK and on live Operational deployments including Op Shader Iraq and Syria.

• Headhunted as a systems expert on engineering hit teams in high tempo, kinetic environments on deployed Ops. Conducted complex fault diagnosis and maintenance of systems as a last chance opportunity to release an asset for flight, often needed when critical air cover was imperative for coalition troop support. Making the right engineering decision in high pressure, extreme stress situations.

Joined as an Aircraft Engineering Apprentice rising to Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, extemporarily completing a full 22-year Service career. Deploying on 15 Operational tours of duty, completing 1500+ deployed days, worldwide.
