Steven Matthews

I have currently been working as a Senior Software Engineer for Boostworks for several years and have experience working with large global businesses with an emphasis on the creation of digital products that are made to be used by a variety of different customers.

My role has always been to look for improvements in how these products, these software deliveries are done.  These have taken the form of reviews of code, languages and frameworks at times.

I have been fortunate to have been involved in and later led from an engineering perspective multiple initiatives to modernise legacy codebases to modern approaches, often delivering hugely material change for both the company as well as customers utilising the software. 

I’m a huge proponent of self-study and learning, continuing my own self-development to stay on top of industry trends, whether they be language related or to approaches being utilised in the broader software industry.  Most recently that has taken the form of building a personal chatbot project utilised in a live-streamed charity event.

I have experience with a myriad of different back-end languages, with an emphasis on API creation.  I have also been involved in limited front-end development utilising JavaScript and HTML. 

These skills have continued to involve further with personal development to develop the necessary skills in cloud infrastructure—particularly with Azure—and containerisation, applying these to improve scalability, deployment, and system performance using pipelines, route-to-live concepts, amongst others.

Outside of work, I enjoy hands-on technical projects, reading, and building personal coding initiatives—one of which included developing a chatbot used in a live-streamed charity event. My earlier experience in retail, catering, and childcare has strengthened my communication, teamwork, and time-management skills, all of which contribute to my adaptability and reliability in professional settings.

This role offers an opportunity for me to put my skills to use in a new type of industry that has a huge impact on the day-to-day lives of people as well as providing me the opportunity to grow further in my own career.
