    Job Summary

    Part-Time 30 Hours per Week

    An exciting opportunity has opened up at the Burns Unit at Whiston Hospital. We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals, with a strong commitment to delivering excellent patient care. Professional development is encouraged within our supportive and dynamic team.

    Mersey Regional Burn Unit offers care to patients with burn injuries over a wide area, including North Wales and the Isle of Man, catering to a population of 4 million people.

    The Unit consists of 12 beds which are:

    • 4 high dependency cubicles
    • 4 single cubicles
    • 4 bedded area

    Main Duties of the Job

    • To develop skills in caring for acutely unwell patients
    • Collaborate with senior Medical staff to provide top-quality service to patients and their families
    • Provide advice and support to staff as needed
    • Work as a team with various professionals to optimize resource utilization
    • Demonstrate dedication to the principles of Improving Working Lives
    • Promote a secure work environment following Risk Management guidelines

    About Us

    The partnership between St Helens & Knowsley and Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals has been approved by the Secretary of State. We have now merged into a single organization, the Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, effective July 1st.

    The Trust provides acute hospital care, intermediate care, community, and primary care services to a population of over 600,000 individuals, with a dedicated workforce of around 9000 skilled staff in 17 locations.

    Job Description

    Job Responsibilities

    KEY DUTIES

    • To develop skills in caring for acutely unwell patients

    CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform thorough assessments of ill patients under supervision, plan, implement, and evaluate care delivery based on changing health needs
    • Maintain patient records accurately and ensure documentation reflects care provided
    • Engage patients, families, and carers in service planning and delivery within the Unit
    • Facilitate effective communication with patients, relatives, or carers
    • Assist in urgent situations under senior staff guidance
    • Develop specialized skills within Professional Practice scope
    • Communicate complex information effectively in various settings
    • Recognize and respond to urgent situations appropriately
    • Report incidents in line with Trust policy
    • Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and guidelines
    • Participate in activities enhancing service quality
    • Promote current evidence-based nursing techniques
    • Handle patient and relative complaints
    • Promote diversity, equality, and rights
    • Be knowledgeable about emergency plans and procedures
    • Support objectives alignment with local, regional, and national targets

    ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

    TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Promote effective learning environment
    • Support staff in achieving competencies
    • Mentor junior Nursing staff
    • Review staff performance and address issues
    • Continuously improve own knowledge and skills

    LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Strengthen the profile of your clinical area within the Trust
    • Handle incidents, complaints, and concerns in collaboration with Matron/Ward Manager
    • Ensure high standard of care and safety in the department
    • Optimize resource utilization
    • Promote health, safety, and security
    • Represent the clinical area in meetings/committees
    • Act as a role model and demonstrate leadership
    • Participate in research projects
    • Manage duty rostering, leave allocation, and absence management

    RESEARCH & AUDIT

    • Initiate and participate in research/projects as directed

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • RGN Level 1, with current NMC Registration
    • Burns qualification, or willingness to pursue

    Desirable

    • Ongoing professional development with a relevant diploma
    • Teaching and assessing qualification/training or equivalent
    • Willingness to achieve a degree level qualification

    Knowledge & Experience

    Essential

    • Clinical skills proficiency
    • Familiarity with current clinical issues
    • Understanding of Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults procedures
    • Application of research and evidence-based practices
    • Audit knowledge and participation

    Desirable

    • Experience in audit and within NHS
    • Post-registration experience in acute hospital settings
