    The Role and the Department

    Applications are invited for a full time Learning and Teaching Administrator in the Department of Anthropology.


    The successful candidate will be part of a small, friendly team of professional services staff based in the department on the Lower Mountjoy Site.

    Hybrid working opportunities are currently in place with a possibility of working up to 50% of the week (Monday to Friday) from home.

    The Learning and Teaching Administrator will be responsible for assisting the Learning and Teaching Manager in administering day to day programme delivery, encompassing all areas of the taught student lifecycle from the point of enrolment to graduation.


    Durham Anthropology is one of the very best in the UK with an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and employability of our students being 28th in the QS World Rankings, 5th in the Complete University Guide, and one of the UK's top five anthropology departments for graduate prospects.

    The Department of Anthropology has a vibrant research culture with many visitors, seminars, global conferences and workshops, and is set to grow significantly over the next ten years.

    Our undergraduate and graduate degree programmes have very high-quality students.

    Each year, we welcome over 100 undergraduate students onto our single honours programmes and ~30 students onto our joint honours degrees with the Department of Archaeology, Department of Sociology and Department of Psychology.

    Our postgraduate taught degrees attract ~50 students from around the world each year, and we have a postgraduate research student community of ~75, again with substantial international representation.

    We aim to provide a supportive and friendly environment with a strong sense of community.

    Currently there are more than 30 permanent members of academic staff, conducting world class excellent research in Evolutionary Anthropology, Social Anthropology and the Anthropology of Health.

    What you need to demonstrate when you apply

    To be considered for this role, here are the skills/experience we're looking for:

    Qualifications/Experience

    • Five GCSEs at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics or equivalent experience.
    • Experience of working in a busy office environment delivering front line administrative services or having relevant qualifications for the role.
    • Experience of managing time to meet deadlines and working under pressure without compromising on quality.
    Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

    • Good spoken and written communication skills.
    • Good digital skills including experience in using digital devices and apps including [the internet, email, digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, digital booking systems].
    • Committed to continuing professional development.
    • Ability to solve problems and resolve straightforward issues yourself and as part of a team.
    • Ability to provide advice and guidance to a range of colleagues and customers
