Content designers help to identify and match users' needs to the right kind of content.

They use language and other tools to help people find and do what they need to, in the way they need to.

Content designers are comfortable using data and user research to make the right content decisions.

They make sure users' goals are met and that a service or other product meets policy intent.

Responsibilities

As a content designer, you'll:

  • Create new content and iteratively improve existing content across digital channels to meet user needs and departmental objectives
  • Evaluate content based on user research and analytics data
  • Use the style guide and other standards to design high quality content
  • Take part in user research and be able to work with multidisciplinary, Agile teams to contribute to an overall user experience
  • Build relationships and work closely with policy, legal and other expert colleagues to ensure content is accurate and consistent
  • Be an active member of the content design community, contributing to knowledge of best practices
  • Promote usercentred content design within the department and beyond

Skills and experience
To be considered for this role, you'll need to:

  • Have editorial experience of working on digital content
  • Have worked in an Agile or similar multidisciplinary environment
  • Know how to create content in a usercentred way
  • Know how to use analytics data and user research to make content design decisions
  • Be able to write and edit using a style guide and plain English
  • Be able to explain content decisions in a way that nonexperts understand
  • Be able to handle constructive criticism of your work and to constructively review other people's work
  • Be able to manage more junior content designers

£37,295.00-£44,724.00 per year
