UCL Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the top research and teaching departments in the UK and has world-class standing.

The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and has an extensive research portfolio across a wealth of areas, and from molecular scale to complex systems.

UCL Chemical Engineering launched the MSc Global Management of Natural Resources (GMNR) in 2016.

This successful and uniquely structured programme introduces students from a variety of backgrounds to the natural resource industries:
hydrocarbons, nuclear, water, renewables, and minerals and metals.

The programme covers these areas and is coupled with modules in environmental and social practice, sustainable business practice and management with regards to the natural resources industries.

The programme is evolving to match the expectations of graduates and employers.

This new role will allow us to deliver a broader curriculum, widen our intake and improve the range of learning outcomes we can deliver for students.


About the role:


The main duties of the role are:

  • To develop resources for and deliver aspects of the programme within Environmental and Resource Economics including development of new modules if required.
  • To support the delivery of the dissertation module, in particular supporting students on the economic aspects of their dissertations, and supporting the development of professional and transferable skills.
  • To contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a highquality curriculum.
  • To develop learning materials, prepare schemes of work, and maintain records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
  • To participate in the development, administration and marking of coursework, project work, dissertations, and other assessments.


This role is based in London, although will include remote support to students once they have travelled to Adelaide, and potential travel within the U.K.

and overseas to support leaning activities, if appropriate and desired.


About you:


The key skills required for the post is a first degree, in Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering or other science or engineering as applied to natural resource management, with additional experience as appropriate; knowledge of current financial and economic practice within the natural resources sector with a particular focus on, but not limited to the mining and mineral resource cycle.

This should be underpinned with knowledge of sustainable and Environment, Social and Government (ESG) practice within these industries. Combined with excellent people skills and the ability to build good relationships with students, colleagues and external partners.
