    What is the Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAP) Apprenticeship?

    The CAP Apprenticeship is an 18-month training programme with Elysium Healthcare Psychology services and the University of Plymouth, which provides a distinct career path to start working in psychological practice.

    A Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAP) is a unique role with on-the-job training and, once qualified, you will be retained as a qualified CAP at Brighton and Hove Hospital.

    You will be trained to be a qualified, British Psychological Society registered Clinical Associate Psychologist, which will enable you to work alongside other Psychological professionals providing Psychological assessment, formulation and interventions to children and young peoplein inpatient settings, under the supervision of a Practitioner Psychologist.

    How does it work?

    Brighton and Hove Hospitalpsychology staff, Elysium Healthcare's regional staff and the University of Plymouth's academic staff will jointly support you in your learning journey, where your time will be split between online academic learning and working as part of a multidisciplinary mental health team at Brighton and Hove Hospital.

    Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship, you will continue your career development in the hospital departments and will have access to various Elysium career opportunities while you continue to build your psychology experience.

    Eligibility criteria:
    A Bachelor's degree in psychology with the British Psychological Society's graduate basis for eligibility
    Have lived in UK/EU/EEA for 3 years.
    Be 2 years beyond any publicly funded psychology training as stipulated by HEE. (
    Have a portfolio of clinically relevant experience.

    You will work at Brighton & Hove Clinic, a service that offers CAMHS Tier 4 Eating Disorder service for young people aged 12 up to 18 years with a primary diagnosis of eating disorder; or an eating difficulty with a co-morbid presentation for example mental health or psychological issues, such as depression, OCD or anxiety or self-harm.

    We work actively with young people and their families, to empower them to manage their illness in the community.

    This site is the primary base for this role, however there may be a requirement to work across other hospitals in the region.
