Job summary:

Seeking innovative creative designer specialising in motion graphics looking to push boundaries

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our creative in-house team.

We are responsible for providing Navy Command with a comprehensive graphics and publishing service in support of the development and maintenance of the Military Capability of the Royal Navy and Allied Navies under management of DNS, meeting the objectives as laid down in the Navy Graphics Business Plan (see attachments at the bottom).


The job holder will provide graphics support Royal Navy units; ashore and afloat, with a final product prepared for digital or hard copy output (including large format).

Expertise is required to cover a wide range of media that can include:
Visualisation, Motion Graphics and Digital solutions, Design for Print, Technical, Graphic Illustration, 3D, etc.


This role reports to the Digital Manager, so the majority of tasking will be be on the digital side; Motion Graphics, Video, illustrations.

This is in support of the Digital Comms team who look after the RN social media channels. We also support other areas of the Navy including ships and the Royal Marines.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:


  • Responsible for daytoday design tasking, which can be very varied both in skill and duration. You may be working on several tasks at a time, so handling workload is crucial. Discussing and encouraging innovation in development of working practices is highly encouraged.
  • Providing a wide variety of professional graphics/illustration outputs using Adobe Creative Suite, security procedures, Royal Navy Identity Branding Rules (BR9374), Graphics Grade Functional Competences and Working Practices.
  • Leading (with line manager) over the identification and development of design outputs for conversion into templated products for production gains and savings.
  • Liaising with Navy Command customers over task production, advising on initial requirement and concept, best practice and cost whilst monitoring quality standards and timescales.
  • Ensuring task details are managed and recorded via the Graphics Management Information System.
  • Advising military and civilian customers on RN Identity Branding Rules (BR 9374) as required.
  • Working with our wider department, Navy Communications, engage with team members, build relationships and seek improved ways of working.

Person specification:


  • A working knowledge of Graphics industrystandard software with a high proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite in a PC or Mac based environment. Complimented by After Effects/Premiere animation and videoediting software, and/or Blender 3D software.
  • MS Office software skills
  • Sharepoint/Teams skills. Powerapps would be very beneficial with automating elements of the tasking process.
  • Experience of preparing work for external print.
  • A portfolio/digital/web showreel of work.
  • A willingness to work independently being selfdriven, but also to regularly engage with team members to progress projects.
