About us:

Finance is headed by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is part of UCL's Professional Services.

The CFO reports to the President & Provost and is a member of both the University Management Committee (UMC) and the Professional Services Leadership Team, working closely with the Vice President Operations.

Finance is divided into 3 Directorates:
Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Finance Business Partnering and Financial Services.

They are responsible for the management of UCL's financial performance and strategy and for the provision of services and advice.

In this job you'll be a key part of the FP&A team, which leads on financial strategy, planning, internal management reporting and compliance reporting to our regulators, analysis and modelling.

About the role:

This is an exciting, high profile job which will provide the opportunity to engage with senior UCL colleagues including University Management Committee (UMC) and Council members, as well as academic and Professional Services colleagues across the University.

You will play a leading role in maintaining and reviewing UCL's newly agreed financial strategy.

Reporting to the Head of Financial Strategy, you'll support the regular review of the newly agreed strategic approach for the University and help to ensure that the financial strategy continues to align with, and support, UCL's Strategy and strategic plan.

You will play a key role in ensuring alignment of both Operating and Capital expenditure to strategic priorities, including developing an approach to any future cost reduction activity.

This will require significant engagement with UCL's Strategy and Change and Improvement functions as operating model transformation plans are developed.

You will also drive finance's relationship with Planning on tuition income (Fees and student numbers) and will work with stakeholders to develop new commercial and other income options.

You will support the embedding of the financial strategy across UCL, drive ongoing communication with key stakeholders including academic colleagues, and help to ensure that the Financial Strategy shapes the future financial plans of the University.

You'll also undertake 'horizon scanning' to inform the future shape of UCL's financial strategy and define its requirements.

This will require close working with UCL Strategy and Vice-President teams, as well as developing productive external relationships relevant to UCL's financial strategy.

About you:

To do this job you'll need to be a fully qualified accountant with significant PQE or demonstrable experience in a planning or finance role, with successful experience of developing financial strategy in a complex environment.

You'll have a track record of financial leadership, and be a capable and credible finance professional, comfortable with operating and influencing at senior management level and be able to demonstrate a high level of oral and written communication skills.

Previous experience of working in an HE institution is useful but by no means essential.
