Applications are invited for the post of a Specialist Grade doctor at the East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust, where there is currently a vacancy at the Colchester site


Applications are invited for enthusiastic, motivated and committed individuals to join our friendly and dynamic teams within the Oncology department at our Hospital sites, part of the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

There may be the opportunity in keeping with our Clinical Strategy for cross-site working at our other hospital site at Ipswich if service needs require.

Oncology Specialist Grade Doctor working 10 PA's

The post holder will work according to an agreed job plan.

The job plan will be reviewed annually. It will cover all aspects of a Specialist Grade professional practice including clinical work, research and education.

In addition, it will include personal objectives, details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the doctor to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.

10 PA's will be offered. A minimum of 8.5 PA's will be for direct patient care and 1.5 PA's for SPA.


Expected commitments will include:
Multi-disciplinary ward meeting

New patient clinics

One or more chemotherapy review clinics

One or more follow-up clinics

Acute oncology service support (one or more sessions)

Support to Radiotherapy unit and Collingwood centre (for chemotherapy patients)

Ward consultations

Other ward rounds

Attendance at relevant site-specific MDTs

Audit, research, CPD, appraisal and revalidation

The Oncology Team are located across two sites, Ipswich and Colchester and there is the opportunity for cross-site working. The new trust ESNEFT is developing a model of partnership bringing exciting new service development opportunities.

To complement the established services, the ESNEFT oncology team are committed to collaborative working, to ensure the long-term sustainability of oncology service provision and to increase opportunities, training and research for medical staff.


ESNEFT's vision is to provide one central integrated Cancer Centre at each site that combines first class radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and medical treatments, alongside a holistic range of therapies, information, support and advice.


Both hospitals have a Cancer Centreproviding state-of-the-art facilities delivering first class medical care and the most advanced treatments, alongside a range of complementary and alternative therapies.

Purpose-built, sympathetic environments enable the best possible holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to the care of all cancer patients and their loved ones.

The Cancer Centre at Colchester General Hospital brings together all cancer-related services into one location. The Collingwood Centre is a new chemotherapy and Haematology day unit that opened in November 2019. This adjoins the Radiotherapy Centre.

The Collingwood Day Unit delivers both chemotherapy and supportive treatments for oncology and haematology patients. The Unit is run by Chemotherapy competent Nursing staff who deliver all the outpatient chemotherapy.


There is a Mobile Cancer Care unit, which travels to four areas surrounding Colchester and operate four days a week, which is staffed by the experienced nurses from the Collingwood centre.

The provisions of this service allows the chemotherapy department to deliver treatments closer to home and is a favourable service for our patients.

The unit delivers an in-house PICC placement service, supporting timely pathways for our patients.
