What's the role?


As the Head of Energy Bureau Operations, you will report directly to the Director of Bureau & Energy and will be entrusted with the dynamic management and leadership of our highly skilled Energy Bureau teams, encompassing Bill Validation, Recoveries, and Energy Procurement.

This is a role that promises an unparalleled opportunity to make a significant impact in the industry.


One of your primary responsibilities, backed by a team of accomplished professionals, including a Senior Bureau Manager, Energy Procurement Manager, and Recoveries Team Leader, is to ensure unwavering client satisfaction across all facets of service delivery.

You will be the driving force behind fostering seamless cross-team collaboration, both within the Energy Bureau and across various departments within SMS, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.


In this role, you will also serve as a key point of escalation and representation for our valued external stakeholders, showcasing your expertise and prowess in managing successful partnerships.

Your strategic insights will play a vital role in designing and implementing initiatives to enhance processes and outputs, including overseeing the introduction of cutting-edge software and reporting tools while supporting the teams with invaluable data analytics and reporting.


As the Head of Energy Bureau Operations, you will be instrumental in achieving crucial departmental objectives, KPIs, and SLAs, providing steadfast support to our teams to ensure excellence in execution.

Working closely with the Director of Bureau & Energy, you will actively contribute to crafting and executing strategies, and identifying new business opportunities with both current and prospective customers, propelling SMS towards an even brighter future.


Furthermore, your role will extend beyond just team management, as you will play a key part in integrating SMS' ground-breaking commercial EV charge point operating services where they combine with our Energy Bureau offerings, showcasing your versatility and the limitless potential of this exciting position.


Work Schedule - Hybrid working Monday to Friday.


Key responsibilities:

Team Leadership: Take the reins and lead our Energy Bureau teams, comprising the Bill Validation, Recoveries and Energy Procurement teams, to achieve operational excellence and consistently surpass performance targets.

Collaboration with Treasury Function: Forge strong working relationships between the Energy Bureau teams and our SMS' Treasury function, ensuring seamless collaboration and the optimal management of energy-related financial processes.

Performance Management: Monitor team performance and implement strategies to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality of service, ultimately driving cost savings and improved energy outcomes for our valued clients.

Operational Efficiency: Continuously evaluate and improve operational processes, identifying opportunities for automation, digitisation, and streamlining to optimise resource utilisation and overall effectiveness.

Client Relationship Management: Maintain close communication with clients, understanding their unique requirements, and proactively addressing their needs, building long-lasting and mutually beneficial partnerships.
