Your New Role:


We have a fantastic opportunity for a
Safe Systems of Work Planner (SSOWP) to join our
Transpire account in Manchester - On site role.


Transpennine Amey is working in partnership with Network Rail on the Transpennine route upgrade project since 2018, with an increased focus on providing reliable, frequent, faster, and greener railways to the North of England.

Covering 76 miles of railway between Manchester, Leeds, York, Selby and onto Humberside, we lay the foundations, covering upgrades to civils, track, railway systems and electrification to the west of Leeds.

By completing such works, we aim to support Network Rail with cutting carbon emissions and ensuring to deliver a smoother, more enjoyable journey to their customers.


Safe Systems of Work Planner (SSOWP) plays an important part in:

  • Producing SWP's in the correct timescales.
  • Submit requests to GZAC Green Zone Recording System; ensure that all requests meet required NR timescales.
  • Attending on behalf of Amey projects, PICOP Meetings and Area Planning Meetings as appropriate.

The standard hours of work are 37.5 hrs per week.

You will be responsible for:


  • Responsible for the collation and distribution of Safe Work Packs in a timely manner.
  • To ensure all Safe Work Packs are returned and monitored in line with PDSW Process timescales and quantities
  • To assist with the allocation of work arising; manage late notice requests submitted through to Late Change Process.
  • Review all possession documentation issued for Area/NAU and identify any changes or errors that would affect safety of the possessions.
  • Attend PICOP Meetings and Area Planning Meetings to ensure all submissions are included and correct for delivery of projects.
  • Attend internal Project startup meetings and subsequent Project progress meetings to ensure the correctness of all Safe Work Pack requirements in the register and subsequent requirements are acknowledged and logged.
Specific Safety Responsibilities

  • Participate in regular team and safety meetings with the allocated Project Manager and technical briefings with the appropriate technical head.
  • Onward briefing of technical updates and review of project compliance with standards.
  • Initiate and pursue appropriate action in response to critical issues identified escalating where the issue strays from the role's remit or role holder's personal competence.
  • Maintain professional development and awareness of issues within own discipline.
  • Compliance with Amey Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Ensure the effective identification and management of all risks associated with role carried out.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience of works planning and scheduling within the operational railway environment
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office Word & Excel, NESA, NROL, PPS & GZAC planning).
