    Senior Rotational Occupational Therapist MSK
    Band 6

    These are exciting times in OT at NUH with a currently running OT improvement project delivering increased engagement and improving moral.

    This is a comprehensive rotational MSK role working across Trauma, Major trauma and Spines inpatient areas at QMC / elective orthopaedics and burns and plastics at the City Hospital as well as the Nottingham treatment Center , Fracture clinic and rheumatology.

    The role will focus on treating both in and out-patients with a range of upper and lower limb trauma and elective orthopaedic conditions, and a more complex caseload of rheumatology patients.

    This includes the setting of goals / delivery of rehabilitation plans / fabrication of splints and braces. Involvement in discharge planning of in-patients will also be included.
    Assess and provide appropriate treatment for a range of upper and lower limb elective/trauma orthopaedic and rheumatology conditions.
    Assess and treat patients to facilitate discharge and to support rehabilitation.
    Deputise for the band 7 team leader as appropriate.
    Provide supervision to junior and support staff.
    Work flexibly including bank holidays and rostered weekends to support the in-patient service.

    Therapies and Rehabilitation Services is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH.

    We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff who work together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to.

    Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists, and our other staff encompass professionals such as nurses, psychologists, administrative and clerical and support workers.

    There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

    If you are interested in developing your skills in complex discharge planning, splinting and bracing, work hardening, and psycho-social readjustment following injury or surgery, then this could be the role for you.

    Experience of splinting is preferred, but full training will be given.

    At NUH we have a band 6 development programme which supports staff to grow in their role, improve project and presentation skills and develop as an occupational therapist for the future.

    You will be given support and training for you to develop in the band 6 role, but you must demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to work autonomously, deputising for the Band 7 when required.

    You will also provide support and supervision to your more junior team members, and engage in student training.
    Training and Qualifications
    Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
    Health Professional Council registration as an Occupational Therapist
    Able to maintain a professional portfolio for CPD, recording learning outcomes through participation in internal and external development opportunities
    Experience of delegating to and supervising OT or Rehabilitation support staff
    Experience of contributing to the clinical education of less experienced staff or undergraduate OT students
    Knowledge of national and local standards and COT guidelines

    Able to effectively use a range of written and verbal communication skills with patients to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes.

    Able to communicate patient related information effectively to ensure collaborative working with MDT colleagues across health & social care sectors.

    Able to reflect and critically appraise own performance and the performance of junior OT staff and support staff
    Risk assessment skills for the safe management and discharge of complex patients
    Planning and organisation
    Able to make judgements about the prioritizing of caseloads when demand exceeds capacity and to support junior and support staff in this process
    Able to handle and move complex patients safely and in a way which promotes rehabilitation

    Flexibility to work elsewhere in Therapies or as required across both campuses
    Flexible working schedules including participation in weekend rosters where required

    Salary:
    The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

    I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month's pay).
