    Description
    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Permanent Engineering Manager to join our clients reputable business based in Newport.

    The company is one of the UK's largest supplier of steel reinforcement and associated products for concrete.

    With a network of strategically placed manufacturing locations, they are recognised as a market leader, supplying major contractors and blue-chip companies.


    The package details are as follows:
    Location - Newport

    Salary:
    £45k per annum & Bonus Scheme.
    Working Hours: 39 hours per week.
    Shifts to be 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Thursday, 8.30am to 4.00pm Friday.

    Develop a clear strategy to improve onsite engineering services that support world class manufacturing methods

    Design clear and sustainable policies and procedures for the business and the team to operate by
    Benchmark activities with other leading manufacturing
    Introduce systematic control methods
    Change behaviours within the function to provide world class service
    Develop expertise in the onsite equipment
    Define the necessary maintenance activities that will impact on manufacturing performance of the site
    Liaise with other managers across the organisation to ensure that process recommendations and plans are integrated with other parts of the business and aligned with the overall corporate objectives
    Define AMP (Annual Maintenance Plan) for the site in line with manufacturing targets Manage specific projects and undertake specific project activity

    Evaluate the results of all projects and prepare recommendations for senior managers about significant changes to be made to resources, procedures, systems or technology
    Ensure implementations of projects for expanding and/or modifying the production lines
    Allocate project work to the most advisable contractors
    Deliver a number of key strategic projects in line with Total Quality Management (TQM) and continuous improvement
    Provide technical advice in important, complex and difficult engineering projects Plan, prioritise, schedule and manage maintenance activities to rectify break-downs, malfunctions and minimise business disruptions

    Maintain system of breakdown data
    Generate reports to identify potential deviations
    Create work lists for engineers according to priority
    Monitor maintenance activity, intervening when necessary
    React to engineer feedback
    Liaise with functional or operational area managers to coordinate scheduled maintenance activities with their operationsMonitor the cost and effectiveness of process engineering activities to optimise resources, prioritise spending and achieve timeliness, reliability and safety standards

    Gather feedback on machine performance
    Analyse market availability to ensure optimum supply of resource
    Anticipate forecasts based on available records and data
    Plan budgets around expected volumes of work
    Allocate spending from budget according to site current and future needs
    Prioritise spending on mandatory activities
    Maintain system to monitor and control costsEvaluate, select and manage relationships with external contractors to minimise costs and ensure the organisation receives satisfactory standards of service

    Refer to the preferred suppliers list for contractor information
    Contact multiple suppliers for competitive quotes when appropriate
    Raise purchase orders for required services
    Attain the necessary safety information from suppliers before work begins
    Induct contractors onto site
    Instruct contractors of required maintenance activity
    Monitor contractors during maintenance activities, intervening when necessary
    Create rescue plans when appropriate
    Allocate resource to support contractor activityLead, direct, evaluate and develop a team of functional professionals or other professionals to ensure that the plant meets its established targets and standards

    Conduct interviews for internal and external candidates
    Complete induction, on boarding and probationary reviews in a timely manner
    Evaluate individuals' performance and set objectives for the future
    Conduct Performance reviews within timescales
    Manage poor performance
    Manage attendance and timekeeping
    Conduct Investigations, Disciplinary and Grievance procedures in line with company policy
    Ensure HR and Payroll are provided with data and documentation as and when required
    Seek advice from HR, Occupational Health or other support agencies e.g. ACAS, EEF
    Create career development programmes for the team and develop medium-term planning for the growth of the processImplement and influence the organisation's Health and Safety strategy, developing and promoting health and safety amongst direct and indirect reports

    Analyse standard operating procedures to ensure they meet current legislation, updating when necessary
    Analyse the severity of hazards and prioritise the remedial actions required to correct
    Engage maintenance and/ or contractors to correct non-compliance health and safety issues
    Research appropriate external providers to supply corrective work for non-compliance issues
    Liaise with senior management to communicate costings and forecasts
