    Job summary

    Are you looking to be part of an innovative, exciting, and dynamic team with a drive to improve our increasing clinical services? Our Outpatient Department facilitates & supports a wide range of specialist clinics and nurse led clinics. We are looking for newly qualified and experienced band 5 registered nurses to join our friendly, supportive team, and offer an opportunity to work within a varied area covering many specialities. The Outpatient Department cover three areas at Pontefract Hospital. The specialities covered in clinic include Breast Care, Oncology, General Surgery, Vascular, ENT, Urology, Neurology, Respiratory, Cardiology and other specialities.

    We are looking for hard working individuals who are both flexible and versatile in their approach to work to join our excellent, supportive, and friendly team. You must be able to work well under pressure in an adapting environment. You will be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills. You will possess a positive attitude and constructive towards change.

    You will participate in the day-to-day running of the department, providing support to all services following induction and ongoing support. You will be expected to develop and maintain good and organisational skills, whilst acting as a positive role model and provide an environment conducive to the support of the Healthcare Assistants, and other members of staff in the department at that time, whilst enhancing the patients journey & experience.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will work as part of a team to provide safe, effective, efficient care for patients, relatives, and carers in an Outpatient setting.

    As part of the Outpatient team, you will be focused on patient care, always aiming for good patient experience, to provide a high standard of care to patients, whilst always maintaining their privacy and dignity, to assess care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care and to contribute to supporting the Junior Sister/Senior Sister.

    You will support the maintenance of high standards of cleanliness in their own clinical area, actively promoting and maintaining self-development and contributing to the support the Senior nursing team to maintain/improve and develop high standards of patient care, and thereby ensuring that the patients are treated with privacy, dignity, and respect.

    Job responsibilities

    Participating in the development and delivery of a philosophy of care which involves/respects the rights of patients carers and staff.

    LEARNING ENVIRONMENT/EVIDENCE BASED NURSING

    The Registered Nurse will support and contribute to a ward culture which is conducive to learning incorporating high quality evidence based practice into patient centred care.

    This will be achieved by:

    Utilising and contributing to resources within the ward environment which encourage evidence based nursing.

    Promoting patient/carer independence through relevant teaching and support.

    Supporting and enabling professional development of team members.

    Undertaking own personal development to meet identified needs.

    Contributing to the mentorship of colleagues as directed by the ward sister.

    Ensuring statutory training is undertaken.

    COMPETENT PRACTICE

    The Registered Nurse will combine theory and experience to demonstrate clinical competence in practice.

    This will be achieved by:

    Participating in the assessment of health related needs of patients and their families/careers.

    Contributing towards the formulation of a plan of care with the patient and their family/carers.

    Delivering direct care to patients in accordance with the Trusts policies and NMC Guidelines.

    Continually assessing and evaluating the patients condition and the effectiveness of the care delivered with a senior member of the team.

    Promoting a multi professional approach to maximise the patients health and independence utilising resources appropriately.

    Maintaining up to date knowledge of current nursing issues/practices.

    Working as a registered nurse, without direct supervision in the absence of the Ward Sister where necessary.

  • Post registered experience.

  • Registered Nurse. UK NMC registration.
  • Desirable

  • BSc (Hons) Nursing. Diploma HE Nursing. Venepuncture training.

  • Ability to deliver a high standard of care. Ability to work as part of a team, develop and maintain positive working relationships. Prioritise tasks. Willing to participate in the rota to cover support when clinics over run. Reflects on own learnings and shares learnings with others. Participates in own self-development. Good verbal and written communication skills.

Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant speciality, statutory and mandatory training.
