Working in our Microbiology Division (MBD), within the Specialty Diagnostics Group, you'll play an active part in helping us to achieve our mission to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

The Microbiology Division discovers microbiological solutions for the diagnosis of infectious diseases and the detection of bacterial contamination.

We serve public health, clinical laboratories, food companies, environmental screening, and pharmaceutical laboratories with a portfolio of products that include culture media, antimicrobial susceptibility testing solutions, and market-leading molecular solutions for food safety testing.

The Team Leader will have overall responsibility for the Microbiology team.

They will be passionate about leading a flexible, multi-disciplined team to manufacture products successfully and efficiently in alignment with customer demands whilst driving the right behaviours with regards to safety and quality.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Be a role model leader and demonstrate behaviors in line with the company 4I values, and operations and leadership competencies.
  • Engage the team in safety ensuring all risk assessments and COSHH are present and accurate to ensure all processes are being carried out in a safe manner.
  • To collaborate with Senior Technicians to ensure work is planned in and adequate resource is available.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities.
  • Empower employees to take accountability in their role. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.
  • Mentor and develop employees using regular 11's and the PMD process to provide an overall context and framework. Encourage employee contribution through goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning.
  • Monitoring of performance and absence within the team, including involvement when issues need to be highlighted.
  • Facilitate the daytoday work within the teams and ensure barriers to execution are removed.
  • Accountability for the team's metrics and presentation of these to management on a regular basis including recovery plans for any misses.
  • Ensure that team members are trained, and their records are up to date, including having enough cover on the various processes in case of absence/attrition.
  • Deputize for the Reagents Manager in their absence.
  • Involved in the hiring and onboarding of new employees.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Educated to degree level in a scientific field and / or a sciencebased employment background
  • Strong understanding of the demands of a manufacturing environment.
  • Leadership skills to help drive team and department performance.
  • Proven track record in compliance (Safety and Quality) improvements within your current role.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:


  • Previous experience of leading a team
  • Previous experience of a science based manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of the requirements for GMP (good manufacturing practice) and a regulated industry
