    Neuromuscular Clinical Nurse Specialist - Birmingham, United Kingdom - Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust

    Job summary

    The post holder will work within the Neurology team, primarily caring for a range of children with Neuromuscular and Inherited White Matter Disorders, taking on responsibility for these specific groups of children within the service, along with other members of the team.

    There will be some elements of cross cover for specialist groups within the service if required.

    The post holder will work closely with other CNS members within the team to ensure continuity of a quality service for all patients and their families. This involves advice to Community teams, schools, hospices and networking with other service that support patients.

    Main duties of the job

  • Be able to practice autonomously within the remit of their defined caseload of Neuromuscular and Inherited White Matter Disorders
  • Supporting patients in between clinic appointment and being the primary point of access for patients, acting as source of initial specialist advice and resources
  • Provide effective nursing leadership, expertise and support to teams/wards and departments that may require input to provide high quality care to children and their families
  • Co-ordinate the liaison with other agencies, including education and relevant patient support groups
  • Promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence based practice.
  • Use measurable outcomes for safety, patient experience and service efficiency.
  • Develop and update clinical guidelines
  • Maintain own professional development and mandatory training, identifying learning needs in relation to specialist area of practice.
  • Participate in National and International events in order to further National and International knowledge and share best practice.
  • Work collaboratively with other centres to promote best practice for Metabolic Disorders, improve education and teaching for relevant other professionals where required
  • Liaise with NHS England and HSS to develop and implement guidelines
  • Raise awareness of rare disorders and be an active member of relevant rare disease groups

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • RN Child, or RGN/RSCN
  • Healthcare related degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Teaching and Assessing Qualification
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Experienced Paediatric Nurse at Band 6 Level
  • Experience of Caring for Children with Neurlogical Conditions, Complex Needs and Learning Disability
  • Experience of supporting patients and families with complex social circumstances, including safeguarding
  • Analytical and Judgement Skills

    Essential

  • Can assess complex patient clinical conditions and clinical situations, and can independently initiate correct response with escalations where appropriate.
  • To recognise actual, potential or emerging service delivery issues and initiate correct escalations responses or mitigation where appropriate.
  • Professional/Mangerial/Specialist Knowledge

    Essential

  • Knowledge of Paediatric Neurology Care
  • Willingness to continue relevant professional development for specialty and nursing practice, and leadership
  • Desirable

  • Experience of Team Leadership/Management
  • Possesses mature communication and team working skills, and is able to project harmonious and reconciliatory progress to emotive situations.
