Our Work Environment

Here at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, our teams in Manchester operate in small squads that champion Agile methodologies.

Each squad is responsible for designing and implementing services, maintaining infrastructure, overseeing deployment, and ensuring long-term support. We take ownership of our projects and see them through completion with dedication.
We have a strong DevOps culture that empowers teams to manage their infrastructure and deployment processes. We have the freedom to select the tools and technologies that best align with our goals.

You'll witness us utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as Kinesis for data processing, PostgreSQL, Redis, & DynamoDB for applications, and conducting chaos testing using Gatling, all hosted on AWS.

Many of our teams advocate for functional programming, meaning you'll likely join a group that applies principles from FP in building services.

Get ready to work with Scala, Cats, ZIO, FS2, and Cats Effect.

Desired Skills & Qualifications
Strong engineers are adaptable and continuously learning new skills. We value candidates who excel in specific areas and possess a growth mindset.
Proficiency in high-quality coding, testing, and development practices.
Experience in a DevOps environment.

Familiarity with Java, or an interest in functional programming, particularly in Scala frameworks like Scalaz, Cats Effect, and ZIO.

Hands-on experience in Cloud Infrastructure, preferably AWS.
Background in building micro/web services, including REST and GraphQL.
Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, Aurora, & DynamoDB, with expertise in query optimization.
Experience with streaming data technologies such as Kinesis.
Effective communication skills for technical and business requirements.
Education & Experience
While not strict prerequisites, we generally look for:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or related fields, or equivalent work background.

At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
