The technical space site lead role supports the 180+ IT Technical spaces and data centers across the estate, responding to vital break fix challenges in critical environments, supervising contractors and advising on new technical space builds, and being part of the oncall team supporting the data centres and technical spaces.


The team want to hear from an enthusiastic hands on team player who is a self starter able to manage and prioritise their own work list, have great attention to detail and a desire for a right first time approach to problem solving and always be ready for more.


Individuals with experience in cat5e, cat6a, and fibre cabling, comms room remediations, and hands on facilities management would be well suited to the role.


  • Daily health checks of technical spaces and data centres
  • UPS, PDU, and ATS installations, configuration and replacements
  • Switch & Server racking and connecting
  • Excel and Visio document updates
  • Service now queue management
  • Service now monitoring & configuration
  • Stores management including moving equipment and boxes around
  • Liaising with Facilities, networks, infrastructure and 3rd party contractors to fix faults, manage planned maintenance, and deliver services
  • Escorting engineers from 3rd parties to ensure service is protected and standards followed
  • Supporting capital build projects with advice and guidance on the creation and remediation of technical spaces to GSTT standards
  • Remediating technical spaces in line with best practices
  • Trace, patch and document site wide critical fibre connectivity
  • Provide a 24/7 support service, attending site where necessary as part of an oncall service


Managing their own workload and reacting to breakfix issues as necessary, being part of a 24/7 oncall team, and being flexible when tasks require out of hours work,The DT&i technical space team are a small but highly motivated and experienced group delivering world class service to the Guys and St Thomas' foundation trust hospitals and estate.


  • To assist the Technical Space Manager in the management of capacity / space planning for the Communications Rooms and Data Centres in their assigned area
  • Provide advice and guidance on: location specific network infrastructure (copper, fibre, switches routers)
- building regulations & consternates within public sector / NHS

  • For the assigned areas of the estate, responsible for:
  • Maintaining the Technical Space Service Catalogue
  • Maintaining an effective Risk Management for the Technical Spaces Asset Base
  • Effective management of change and service transition for the Technical Spaces Service Catalogue
  • Maintaining all Communications Rooms and Data Centres to agreed standards
  • Maintaining a safe working environment for all Technical Spaces
  • Checking and maintaining access to all Technical Spaces
  • Documentation of all work procedures for technical spaces
  • Escorting and supervision of 3rdparty engineers on site ensuring adherence to IT Standards. Ensuring standards and documentation are consistently and continuously maintained
  • Adhere to agreed SLA's where defined and update the Trust's Service Desk Call Logging System
  • Collate agreed KPIs on a weekly / monthly basis for Performance and Service Reporting
  • Work independently to assess and fix risks / issues where appropriate and also know when to escalate to other senior members to resolve / manage
  • Managing and completing, where appropriate, all corrective, preventative and planned maintenance for Technical Spaces and associated equipment
  • To assist the Technical Space Manager in the management of inventory storage & security in their assigned area of the GSTFT estate
  • Responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of power, cooling, earthing and bonding including UPS (uninterruptable power supply and generators)
  • Ensure all work adheres to established standards
  • Management of Change & Service Transition for their area of the Technical Spaces Service Catalogue
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all Technical Spaces
  • Maintain, update and continually improve the trust wide Technical Space documentation set
  • Identify, research and implement future Technical Spaces technologies
