    We are seeking to recruit to a range of posts, including:

    2 x permanent rotational Band 6 OT posts, rotating between the acute wards, trauma and MS outpatients, with the hope that our Complex Rehabilitation Unit will be incorporated into the rotation in the future

    1 x permanent static Band 6 OT post, covering our acute inpatient wards and trauma team

    Band 5 OTs looking for career progression or existing Band 6 OTs looking towards greater specialism are all welcome applicants. Please note We are very keen to consider highly motivated Band 5s with 9+ months of experience to our Band 6 posts - should you be the successful applicant, we would support your career transition, starting from a Band 5 salary to Band 6 within 6-12 months of appointment, should you demonstrate achievement of the required competencies, which are based upon the Cheshire and Merseyside AHP Faculty Passport.

    The working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am - 4pm. Currently there are no weekend working requirements and conversations regarding flexible working are welcomed.

    Main duties of the job

    To assess and treat patients within designated specialist clinical area.

    To work flexibly according to service needs

    To assist senior therapy staff in service development and the provision of a quality service.

    To take responsibility where appropriate, for junior therapy staff and students and delegate duties as necessary, providing appropriate level of support at all times.

    Under the direction of supervisor and other team members assist with specified areas of service provision as appropriate

    Where appropriate participate in clinical rotations across all areas of the Walton Centre Therapy service as directed by Therapy Managers.

    Establish and manage a clinical caseload as appropriate to the service

    To work collaboratively with other clinicians, including medical and nursing staff to influence service development and ensure quality of care is delivered

    To provide clinical education and training to other health care professionals

    Influence research and professional development for self and others.

    Job responsibilities

    Role summary

    1. To provide specialist assessment and implement treatment plans where appropriate for patients with complex needs within designated specialist clinical area.

    2. To work flexibly according to service needs

    3. To assist Occupational Therapy leaders in service development and the provision of a quality service.

    4. To take responsibility where appropriate for band 5 therapy staff, assistants and students, delegating duties as necessary and providing appropriate level of support at all times.

    5. Under the direction of supervisor, and other team members, assist with specified areas of service provision as appropriate

    Clinical Duties

    To undertake Occupational Therapy assessments and to develop and implement agreed treatment plans as appropriate. This will include the treatment of clinically complex patients in a manner that respects peoples privacy and dignity.

    To regularly advise, assist and educate all grades of Occupational Therapists, OT Assistants, Student OT`s and colleagues on the management of patients, including clinically challenging patients.

    To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided, implementing and reviewing clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken

    To facilitate effective internal and external communications with patients, carers and all other Health and Social Care Professional regarding all aspects of patient care.

    To provide and receive complex information that requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understanding.

    To ensure where necessary the provision of cover for the department as a whole in times of annual leave / sickness etc.

    Management and Leadership

    Tosupervise Band 5 Occupational Therapists and students

    To provide the Managers with specialist advice on the planning and development of the Service.

    To assist the Managers in achieving the Service objectives and promoting an open style of management.

    To actively participate in the professional development programme of the Therapy Service and Rehab Network.

    To co-ordinate the work of the team at an operational level ensuring the effective running of the Service and effective dissemination of information.

    To be responsible for the collection of data / records as are required nationally and departmentally and ensure that confidentiality is maintained.

    To represent Occupational Therapy / Therapy Services on the management and service development committees within the appropriate clinical areas and the wider WCFT.

    To identify and order equipment requirements for the appropriate clinical areas following liaison with the clinical lead.

    Clinical and Information Governance

    To attend all mandatory training as specified in the Corporate Induction and Mandatory Training Policy.

    To undertake appropriate mandatory training in infection control and comply withal Trust Infection Control Policies relevant to the post, particularly with regards to the Hand Hygiene Policy.

    To ensure compliance to all Trust Risk Management , Research, Governance and Infection Control Policies and Procedures and abide by the Standards for Better Health and essential standards of safety and qualify.

    To be aware and comply with Data Protection and Confidentially obligations under Law and through Trust Policy.

    To undertake appropriate Information Governance mandatory training set out in the Corporate Induction and Mandatory Training Policy.

    To comply with the explicit and implied terms of their contract of employment or other agreement signed with regard to Trust information.

    To take responsibility for managing their own Health and Well Being.

    To participate in the Personal Development Review process.

    To comply with departmental / organisational procedures and guidelines.

    To comply with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy standards and code of professional conduct. To comply with and adhere to the Health Care Professions Council ( HCPC) requirements for professional practice and registration

    To lead and participate in Rehab Network Educational and Clinical Audit Programmes, Service Developments and initiatives.

    To ensure treatment offered to patients is based on the best available clinical evidence, under the guidance of Clinical Specialists.

    All staff are responsible for ensuring that they provide a high quality service for patients that is safe, effective and personable.

    Staff are responsible for familiarising themselves with Local and Trust documentation that relates to quality and improving the patient experience.

    All staff whether Clinical or Administrative should be aware of their Data Quality responsibilities.

    Staff must complete paper based documentation and enter computer data accurately and use it correctly. Ensuring they endeavour to comply with the standards described in the Trusts Data Quality Policy, Information Security and any other associated documentation.

    Training and Development

    To actively participate in theIn service and Network training programmes.

    To organise and lead Service and Network training programmes when required.

    To attend relevant training courses and complete annual appraisals and a Personal Development Plan. To disseminate information for training attended as required.

    To facilitate regular training and mentoring sessions of Band 5 Occupational Therapy staff and assistants, monitoring, appraising and developing clinical skills and professional standards.

    To teach and advise carers and other Health Professionals to ensure provision of good patient care.

    To train and supervise students on clinical placement in the role of clinical educator.

    To undertake teaching to external agencies as agreed with the manager.

    Person Specification Qualifications

    • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
    • Registered member of Royal College of Occupational Therapy and the Health and Care Professions Council.
    • Completion of Professional practice educators qualification.

    Experience

    • A broad range of clinical experience through acute and rehabilitation medicine
    • Practical experience in the field of neurology and neurosciences
    • Demonstrates application of appropriate models of Occupational therapy
    • Knowledge of current DH guidance.
    • Ability to initiate and apply evidence based practice within the clinical area.
    • Able to manage own time within clinical and non-clinical activity and to guide others using problem solving and decision making skills.
    • Able to demonstrate the role of OT within the rehab MDT
    • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of clinical governance and its application within Occupational Therapy
    • To have highly developed interpersonal skills.
    • Effective and responsive communicator on all levels.
    • Able to use basic IT systems, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Effective presentation and education skills.
    • High level organisational skills.
    • Well-developed leadership skills and a positive role model.
    • Ability to provide specialist high quality clinical intervention that is evidence based.
    • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
    • A positive attitude to change and flexible working practices to meet changing service demands.
    • Ability to manage own stress and stress in others.
    • Specialist experience in the field of neurosciences, complex rehabilitation and long term condition management
    • Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit.
    • Able to write, implement and audit policies.
