    Description

    Description

    Job Title: Trials and Measurements Engineer

    Salary range: £44,500 to £63,500 per annum

    Location: Leatherhead or potentially another UK office for the right candidate

    Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

    Closing date for this role is 2nd April but we would encourage early applications.

    Asset Integrity is a multidisciplinary group which supports our clients understand the life, degradation, integrity and performance of components, systems and facilities from concept through to decommissioning and all stages between. We operate in many sectors including energy (conventional and nuclear energy generation, renewables and oil & gas), transport (rail, maritime, aerospace and automotive, industry (process and manufacture) and defence (all domains).

    We have a wide range of capability utilising testing, trials, condition monitoring, design codes and computer aided engineering (such as FEA). Our colleagues have a wide range of backgrounds from fundamental materials science, to stress engineering, field based work and plant/facilities operations.

    We tend to support projects that are high value, high performance, or safety critical for world class organisations. This can be to substantiate the design of novel products, systems and facilities, to investigate and resolve in-service problems or to extend the life of ageing assets. This can require the use of advance methods and novel approaches to answer very complicated problems, and engage in method development to improve our service offer. This can be across all of our sectors.

    This particular role is focussing on our trials, measurement and inspection competency. Trials, measurement and inspect has long complimented our more analytical and systems engineering services. We have delivered and continue to deliver diverse portfolio of projects, working on planes, trains, cranes, and everything in between, providing a variety of solutions tailored to our clients' needs.

    Depending on experience, the candidate will be involved in the technical delivery and leadership of trial, measurement and inspection projects, technical oversight, review of the work of other staff, developing and maintaining relationships with our clients and innovating our service offer.

    Requirements

    The successful applicant will meet the following minimum requirements:

    Predominantly technical but as a consultancy we expect our engineers to be able to work across our business and with our clients. So good interpersonal skills are very important as is the ability to make structured decisions, problem solve and show initiative and ownership. Broadly speaking:

  • Business Development – flexible on the level but must show the flair and interest
  • Client facing – able to build strong relationships

  • Mechanical Engineering degree is the usual route into this discipline (ideally 2.1 or better). However, a physics or maths degree followed by a Masters or Doctorate in an integrity engineering discipline is acceptable. We would also consider experienced candidates with vocational qualifications.

    Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate experience of both field and laboratory based experimental work covering a wide range of technical activities:

  • Planning and executing testing programmes, including development of method statements and health and safety risk assessments;
  • Sound theoretical and practical understanding of measurement techniques;
  • Experience of a range of sensor technologies (e.g. strain, vibration, pressure, load, noise, temperature), and understanding of the practical issues involved in specifying instrumentation;
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of signal and data analysis techniques;
  • Site based forensic investigation, including problem diagnosis and development of high level remedial schemes;
  • Measurement to compliment numerical modelling;
  • Measurement to supporting operational and asset integrity programmes.
  • The role includes a requirement to regularly visit our customers sites and physically interact with assets. As a consequence, personnel will need to be capable of walking around sites, climbing stairs and ladders and potentially working at height or in confined spaces.
  • The ability to demonstrate a range of the following attributes is desirable:

  • Strong self-motivation with a history of working autonomously;
  • Understanding of the risks involved in site based work and experience of managing emergent problems in a logical and pragmatic manner.
  • Experience of a consultancy environment would be ideal, including experience with developing bids, customer liaison and business development;
  • Candidates would ideally be able to demonstrate experience across a range of industry sectors; marine, power generation, gas turbines, transport or oil and gas;
  • Comfortable in client focused roles;
  • Strong project and programme management, including working in multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Experience of developing procurement specifications and working with suppliers;
  • Leading small teams of engineers;
