This role will allow you to develop and gain a wide range of additional skills which will enhance your own personal development whist contributing to our high standards of care.


  • To provide a high standard of therapy care within the area of work, independently identifying own caseload, and assessing/treating patients to facilitate maximal recovery of function
  • To provide administration and secretarial support to the respiratory community team.
  • To be the initial contact with patients with booking or attending any of the community services, e.g. PR, Oxygen, Home care
  • To support the Clinicians with planning and providing individual patient assessments and treatment programmes for respiratory care patients within framework agreed by nurse/physiotherapist.
  • To support the implementation and evaluation of respiratory interventions for individuals or groups in order to meet the aims of the defined programmes.
  • To actively support the recruitment of appropriate patients and aid comprehensive referral processing for patients who continue their respiratory journey external to the Trust.
  • To input data and records accurately into the IT system used (SystmOne/EMIS). To be able to maintain accurate data on a spreadsheet and use this data effectively.

To communicate effectively with patients and carers to ensure understanding of patients condition and maximise respiratory and rehabilitation potential.

To use verbal and non-verbal communication skills with patients where there will often be barriers to effective communication i.e. altered perception, pain, fear, higher cognitive problems and cultural barriers.

To use communication skills of persuasion, motivation and explanation to encourage patients to participate in their treatment programme.


To communicate effectively and work collaboratively within the MDT to facilitate appropriate medical intervention with secondary and primary care colleagues.
