We have a new Retirement Living Officer opportunity within the Retirement Living team working across two of our over 55's Retirement Living schemes in Coventry.


We are looking for someone to be responsible for managing the health and safety of the sites and buildings, and to support our residents to live safely, maximising their wellbeing and independence within their own homes and as part of the wider community.

As a Retirement Living Officer, you will be responsible for developing a sociable and active community, ensuring that customers can thrive as part of an independent living setting for over 55s.

Working directly with older people with a range of tenancy and other support needs, you will need a blend of empathy, tact, negotiation, creativity and professionalism to deliver a successful customer-focused service., ideally with direct experience of.

An awareness of health and safety and social housing tenancy issues will be an advantage.


The ability to work both on your own and as part of a team, prioritise work load and to be a proactive problem solver are essential in this role.

Full training in our procedures will be given.


In housing you can make a real difference, the role of Retirement Living Officer will involve:

  • Assessing customers' risks in being able to live safely within their home and the wider scheme and being able to sustain a tenancy
  • Ensuring that communal and private living spaces are safe, secure and well maintained
  • Working with vulnerable customers, some of whom may be demanding or under stress and exhibit challenging behaviours.
  • Being able to deal effectively with a range of customer crises and challenges in a responsible and sensitive manner.
  • Identifying and arranging appropriate interventions to support customers to live safely and successfully sustain their tenancies
  • Working effectively and constructively with customers, internal and external stakeholders and partners to support the delivery of a quality customer focused service.

As a minimum we need you to have:

  • Experience of working in a customer service environment
  • Worked with vulnerable people or in partnership with stakeholder agencies that provide support to vulnerable groups.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues, particularly in relation to older people; able to recognise and take responsibility for reporting risks and finding appropriate mitigations and solutions to support customers.

  • Knowledge and understanding a range of older persons health, housing and support risks and needs, including physical health, mental and cognitive health issues, offending behaviours, substance abuse and addictions
