Trainee Metallurgist£27,000Permanent, Full TimeBridgend with global travelA rare opportunity has arisen to join a global company in an exciting role with plenty of international travel.
You will need skills in materials management and engineering knowledge to enable you to function in a marine and offshore environment.
Your specific work activities will be dependent on the area of specialism and may involve the following:In Chemical Metallurgy:
Designing and controlling processes to separate metals from ore;Monitoring and testing for corrosion;Developing ways to improve metals by making them stronger or more adaptable;Testing metals to ensure they meet quality and safety standards
In Physical Metallurgy:
Assessing the physical structure and behavior of metals;Investigating accidents where it is suspected that the cause may be related to metallurgical failure, such as in air crashes;Producing reports on research and tests carried out
In Process Metallurgy:
Controlling the shaping of metals through casting, rolling, forging and drawing;Joining of metals through welding and soldering techniques;Designing metal components and prototypes;Other tasks which may be carried out across the specialisms, to be discussed.
Skills and experience you will need:
Working towards a degree in metallurgy, materials science/technology or a similar engineering subject is normally necessary.
Engineers wishing to gain chartered status (CEng) must have a Masters degree accredited by a relevant engineering institution (either a four-year MEng or a BEng/BSc together with an MSc).You must be comfortable working in confided spaces and happy with frequent international travel.
