Where you'll be working

SP Energy Networks
Our energy landscape is going through a time of profound change.

A challenge touching every part of our society, we need to eradicate carbon emissions to halt the effects of climate change.

We need to change how we live our lives and replace the use of fossil fuels for transport and heat.

Electricity will be at the heart of the solution, through electric vehicles and heat pumps.

And with more renewables generation and other technologies connected to the electricity grid than ever before, it's our role to make sure we create a more efficient, cleaner, greener network to accommodate this increase in demand.

Within SP Energy Networks, we are focusing on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future.

With distribution networks designed for predictable, stable demand, it's vital we upgrade our network to create the flexibility required to cope with the extensive changes to electricity demand, generation, and consumer behaviour.

Through technology and innovation, we will enable a consumer-led revolution in the use and operation of our system.

It will undergo the biggest changes to its design and operation for over half a century; and you can be part of it.

We know people are central to building a better future, quicker, and we need talented, hardworking and flexible people to join us.

What you'll be doing

The home of our operational technology (OT), our Smart Grid Operations (SGO) Team is driving the new digital and data revolution of our energy system.

As we focus on achieving Net Zero, the digitalisation of our network to become a Smart Grid is key to realising this ambition.

Facilitating a two-way communication allowing us to respond digitally to rapid changes in demand or faults on our network, our Smart Grid is key to minimising the impact on our customers, communities and stakeholders.

Working as a Cyber Security Graduate Apprentice / Degree Apprentice within our SGO Cyber Security Team, you'll interface across the different teams within SGO.

From Real Time Systems, Electricity Network Automation, Smart Metering Systems to Cyber Security, you'll support the delivery of projects that enhance the functionality of the systems, while ensuring our systems are available 24/7, 365 days a year
- without fail You'll play a key role in assessing our network security to present potential cyber issues to senior management and our Global OT Cyber Security Teams. You'll also be involved vital activities to minimise the risk of interruptions to our network through risk management planning, carrying out risk assessments and, of course, risk mitigation. We're responsible for providing oversight, governance, and advice to our business; from day-to-day activities to current and future projects, we're the experts in this field. And by the end of your degree, you will be too

During your degree, you'll do rotational placements linked to your modules, providing you with the opportunity to see how your studies relate to real life scenarios and giving you that additional dimension that you won't get from a traditional undergraduate degree.

And at the end of the programme, you'll continue your career as a Cyber Security Engineer with a starting salary of £37,381.
