    Description

    Job Title: Critical Care Nurse at The Christie

    The Critical Care unit at The Christie is on the lookout for exceptional nurses to join our team specializing in cancer care. Our CCU is among the two level 3 critical care facilities dedicated solely to cancer patients in the United Kingdom.

    Main Responsibilities:

    CLINICAL:

    • Prioritize and assess critically ill patient needs
    • Ensure accurate documentation of patient care
    • Provide education and support to patients and families
    • Enhance care through relevant research
    • Evaluate and communicate patients' changing healthcare needs
    • Maintain safe practice and administer prescribed treatments
    • Prepare patients for transfers and follow-up visits
    • Participate in internal rotations and support other clinical areas

    MANAGERIAL:

    • Manage unit in the absence of the Unit Manager
    • Maintain appropriate skill mix and address pertinent issues
    • Promote a supportive working environment and staff morale
    • Act as a mentor to new staff
    • Ensure clinical care standards are met and participate in audits
    • Ensure health and safety standards are upheld
    • Support in recruitment and selection of new staff

    EDUCATION:

    • Maintain awareness of current nursing practices
    • Supervise clinical staff and disseminate knowledge
    • Participate in education programs and professional development
    • Attend required training sessions and courses

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

    • Agree on learning objectives to meet personal and professional development goals
    • Develop teaching and managerial skills
    • Contribute to service improvement and quality
    • Promote equality and diversity

    Qualifications

    • Essential: RGN Level 1 or 2, Degree, Diploma in nursing, Post Registration certificate in critical care, Mentorship course
    • Desirable: Management course, Course in Cancer care

      • Experience

    • Essential: Extensive experience in relevant speciality, Leadership experience
    • Desirable: Managerial experience

      • Skills

    • Essential: Excellent communication and leadership skills, Initiative, Motivation, Deliver high quality care
    • Desirable: Computer Literacy

      • Knowledge

    • Essential: Commitment to personal and professional development

      • Other

    • Essential: Flexible to work shifts, Day/night rotation
