Locum Consultant Respiratory Physician - Full Time Post - 12 Months Fixed Term to cover maternity leave

10 PAs - 5 days per week

Applications are invited for a consultant to work at Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust supporting the Respiratory Department.

This is an exciting time to be joining us as we have merged to become one of the largest Respiratory departments in the UK.


The person appointed will be based at Aintree Hospital and will be joining a friendly team within a large, busy department.

Applicants are required to hold Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Medicine or equivalent qualifications, to be fully registered with the General Medical Council with licence to practise and listed on the Specialist Register or due to be registered within six months of the date of appointment

The successful applicant will join Aintree Chest Centre and undertake duties as a Consultant Physician. The development of a sub-specialty interest would be encouraged. Office accommodation and secretarial support will be provided and clinical activities supported junior medical staff. IT access and training will be provided.

The appointee will have inpatient beds on the General Respiratory wards and provide three formal and 2 board rounds per week.

There will be dedicated outpatient blocks with no inpatients.
Outpatient clinics are templated to provide a 4 hour clinic. Templates may be variable according to sub-specialty requirements.
The appointee will participate in the Respiratory on call rota.

There will be opportunity to take on a share of the managerial responsibilities and a named mentor for new consultant will be provided.

The post is based on a 10 PA job plan including 0.5PA for respiratory on-call duties within the 10 PAs, and 1.5 supporting PAs.

Time off is given in lieu for any work carried out for times including a bank holiday.
An indicative timetable of the fixed sessions is found in the job description.

Actual timings of these fixed sessions in the week is negotiable and dependent upon clinic room availability, the overall needs of the respiratory medicine service etc.

On an annualised job plan there would be between 80 and 100 outpatient sessions, although more could be carried out with an agreed job plan with additional APAs.

There are 1.5 SPAs identified in the job plan.

Newly appointed consultants are offered 1.5 SPAs as a given to deliver core SPA tasks, with additional SPA being available subsequently which are discretionary/performance managed against clearly agreed set objectives.

These objectives will be defined after appointment in consultation with the Clinical Director.
