Reed Secure are working in alignment with The Mayors Office for Policing and Crime.

They currently have an opportunity for a Trainee Accountant to join them initially for 3 months contract with the potential for extension.


Principal Accountabilities

  • Attending and successfully completing the nominated college courses and examinations for the CIPFA Professional Examination scheme.
  • Managing a programme of work allocated by the relevant manager and reporting regularly on progress. Overall managerial responsibilities are with the accountant role, but the trainee accountant is expected to deliver work across MOPAC Finance and may haveadditional temporary reporting lines to other Finance colleagues.
  • Assisting in financial control, monitoring of activities and the provision of financial advice.
  • To assist in budget setting, budget-monitoring, and reporting of financial performance against budgets and investigating variances.
  • Support the Accountant and other finance colleagues in producing accounts, reports and estimates. Collecting evidence and information and performing reconciliations as required.
  • To support the year-end closure of the accounts culminating in the Outturn report to MOPAC Board.
  • To assist in providing financial information, analysis and advice to senior officers and auditors as required.
  • Initially working in a supporting capacity, the trainee will be given more responsibility as their competency levels increase.
  • To liaise with colleagues across Finance, the Met Finance team, and across MOPAC and the GLA as appropriate.

Person specification technical requirements:


  • Ability to use Microsoft office products, Excel experience is desirable.
  • Ability to quickly development understanding and process of accountancy software packages
  • Clear attention to detail to ensure accounts records are updated and maintained
  • Ability to accurately input and update information in databases/spreadsheets.
  • Ability to reconcile data and contribute to the production of monthly reports (with appropriate training and support)
  • Demonstrates a level of appreciation of the political landscape and wider objectives.
  • Able to work in a fastpaced environment and contribute to effective decision making
  • Understanding of the technical accounting and business analysis
  • Awareness of legislative/ regulatory framework within which MOPAC finances operate.
