These 2 posts form an exciting opportunity to join a growing, dynamic team and develop as a respiratory and sleep physiologist.

You will be involved in mentoring and training in simple and complex lung function testing, sleep diagnostics and the treatment of sleep disordered breathing.

Focusing on performing a range of lung function testing, interpretation and reporting fully independently; interpreting respiratory polygraphy traces; performing CPAP treatment setup, routine follow-up and troubleshooting.

There is also an opportunity to participate in an ongoing National Institute for Health Research project as well as developing local research.


As part of your role you will be required to supervise and manage junior members of the team along the other senior Physiologists.

You will be expected to work across site at Lister, QEII and HCH


An opportunity has arisen within the Digswell Sleep & Chest Unit and accross the Trust at East & North Herts NHS Trust a for an enthusiastic motivated individual to work within the Respiratory & Sleep Service.

This will include mostly clinical duties, such as running Lung Function testing and CPAP clinics.


The post holder needs to be able to run Lung Function tests independently and ideally have experience with CPAP treatment, but will be given any necessary training to complement their skills.

They will work as part of a team, prioritise and manage the workload and work flexibly with staff at all levels.

They must have good communication skills, both written and oral, and be computer literate.

Please note that lung function testing experience is essential for this post.

JOB SUMMARY:


The post holder will be expected to:

  • Perform specialized clinical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the two disciplines of clinical respiratory and clinical sleep physiology, to adult patients, from a range of specialities. All procedures will be performed to high standards and in accordance with departmental, national and RCCP guidelines;
  • Undertake the analysis, interpretation of results, provision of reports and advice;
  • Manage the Respiratory function laboratory along with other members of the team;
  • Ensure the effective and timely resource management;
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively on a day to day basis with all the other members of staff to ensure that service needs are met;
  • Lead in audit, research and development of the designated specialist areas;
  • Develop the Lung Function and Sleep service with a focus on high quality patient care;
  • Act in a highly specialist role as a line manager for other Clinical Physiologists and staff within the sleep team;
  • Undertake clinical management of CPAP patients and sleep diagnostics, working in close collaboration with the Lead Respiratory & Sleep CNS and the Respiratory Medical Consultants for Sleep;
  • Maintain and monitor the standard of care of the Respiratory & Sleep Service;
  • Give highly specialist advice, support and education to other health professionals including General Practitioners and community nurses in order to provide a high quality of care for individuals with respiratory and sleep disorders;
MAIN RESPONSIBLITIES/ COMPETENCIES


CLINICAL

  • Planning, performing, interpreting and reporting a wide range of respiratory and sleep physiological investigations independently, employing current standard and advanced techniques and taking appropriate actions as necessary;
- perform independent sleep clinics from diagnosis, treatment planning and delivery;

  • Running CPAP set up and follow up clinics;
  • Undertaking simple fault remedies, cleaning and maintenance of equipment and ensuring these are in good working order
