Lead Network Engineer - Edinburgh - To 65K plus benefits


Lorien's central Edinburgh based client - a rapidly growing firm operating in the Telecommunications field with exciting plans to increase their client base by tenfold over the next couple of years - is currently looking to bolster its team in the shapeof a couple of a key new additions to their Networking squad.


On this occasion, they're looking to recruit the talents of a Lead Network Engineer or Architect with a breadth of knowledge and skills across tech such as Juniper (or Cisco and willing to learn and cross over), IP Routing, Operations Support and BusinessSupport Systems and other relevant areas to come on board and drive the design and implementation of networking solutions for a range of customers across Scotland.

The skills/knowledge we're looking for:


  • Strong working knowledge of Juniper (or Cisco and willing to cross over)
  • A handson leader in the Network Engineering domain, with the drive and technical expertise to design, implement and help to ensure the smooth operation of key complex network solutions
  • Juniper/Cisco qualifications or similar (JNCP/CCNA/etc.)
  • Knowledge across the following areas/similar:
  • OSS/BSS (Operations Support and Business Support Systems)
  • BGP (Border Gateway Protocol)
  • OSPF (Open Shortest Path First)
  • MLPS (Multiprotocol Label Switching)

The kind of duties involved:


  • Troubleshoot networks to identify and diagnose any issues that arise
  • Manage technical network solutions and frameworks from network planning/design/modelling to development, bench testing, design build phases, and analysis
  • Ensure strong relationships with 3rd parties/tech vendors/suppliers
  • Meet customers onsite (around once per quarter or so) to install/upgrade solutions, and otherwise offer remote technical services from the base in Edinburgh's city centre
  • Organise network capacity assessments for current/future network builds and customer expansions
  • Craft and deliver proposals and design documentation
  • Identify new tech to improve performance and reduce costs where possible
