Salary:
£31,931 to £44,166 per annum (dependent on skills and experience). A Specialist Allowance of up to £3000 per annum is also available for this role

Are you a self-motivated mechanical engineer interested in the development of innovative mechanical structures, involving novel concepts, novel materials, and extremely challenging requirements?


The ISIS Target Design Group has an immediate requirement for an experienced senior design and analysis engineer with specialist knowledge in complex mechanical systems to manage the design, development, simulation and procurement of its scientific researchequipment.

Design and analysis of target station components and systems is a key element in supporting the user community carrying out scientific studies at the ISIS facility, and there is an active programme of development of these systems as part of a widerfacility growth.


Person Specification

Ideally you will have:


  • Significant postgraduate experience in the design including experience in working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Significant postgraduate experience in carrying out engineering simulation and analysis (mechanical, thermomechanical and computational fluid dynamics)
  • Proven ability to analyse, design and deliver systems from first principles.
  • Proven ability to work to procedures, and Industrial Standards and Regulations.
  • Understanding of safe design, risk assessments, and risk mitigation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of materials and manufacturing.
